Facebook "Poke"

In facebook I see the option to poke somebody. I never do it because I don't know what it is. What on earth is it?

IIRC, it is just to grab a person's attention. Pretty useless feature when you can just message "hey"

It just sends them a message saying they've been poked by you. They can choose to either poke you back or hide (delete) the message.

Whoever you poke just gets the message that you poked them... And they get the option to poke you back. Pretty pointless.

QFT. The people who use "poke" on Facebook are the same ones who post a play-by-play YAGT about it (complete with cliffs) here afterwards.

No no I use it all the time. Then when you call the girl she says "oh yeah you poked me on facebook..."

Also, when someone pokes you who is not your friend, you can see their profile for a week.
