I think it peaked around 2006, ever since it has been a decline. Anyone agree?

when is it going to die? I can't wait for it to die...

Facebook and Myspace aren't going anywhere. Ever. If you don't like it, don't use it.

?

As I'll be entering my senior year of college next year, I humbly disagree with your assertion that facebook is in decline. On the contrary, I've actually witnessed what I'd say is more of a rapid explosion of interest in Facebook. Businesses, actual organizations/groups, bands, not to mention all the people on it in general. It's very useful, at least for the college folks and a great way to maintain or regain contact with old school friends when distance has become an issue.

Facebook's user count is skyrocketing every single day, it's in a period of huge growth if anything.

I stopped using facebook

but I kind of want it to die so I won't feel bad investing time into using the site and trying to stay in touch

I am not a fan of what Facebook has become.

I really loved the old Facebook because:

1) You could add your class schedules and times
2) College students only
3) Basic look and feel
4) No "apps" that you add to your page

Facebook is cool and an easy way to stay in touch with people. What needs to die is the people who spend 18 hours a day on facebook adding updates every 15 seconds and constantly doing those stupid quizzes.

This pretty much sums it up for me as well.

I also used the market place to sell a few books.

I have a twitter account, but I never use it. I go about my daily life as usual and twitter doesn't get involved. Twitter impacts me in no way whatsoever. I couldn't possibly care less whether twitter dies or not. Or any other website. If I don't want to use it, I won't. If someone else wants to, great. I don't see why people want websites to go under. If you don't appreciate the site, then just ignore it and don't go there. You know, like an adult.

Facebook's unique hits are sinking, and their advertisement rate is declining as well.
Even though they're making massive revenues, their profits each year decline, because of the increased costs of storage maintenance and the necessity of adding more storage to the site to hold all those facebook photos. This means, unless India and other countries like it become more economically viable, Facebook's ad revenue will not be enough to continue the big profits.

Eventually, one of two things will happen:
1) Someone invents a new way to compress photos and store them more efficiently than the process we have now--this will be expensive in the short run, but in the LR, it can give FB a wider profit margin.
2) Facebook is going to start charging people to use certain parts of Facebook. Whether it be a subscription or a one-time thing, people are going to have to pay.

I think Facebook is only increasing in popularity due to the recent "unique url" thing which those who waited and were lucky enough to get one basically get their own site I believe.
