I hace a very conservative and secure as possible facebook profile that includes my real name.

If you were applying fir a job with a high security clearance, would it be overkill to close out all online social networking sites temporarily or simply give yourself an alias?

Even ifi havea respectable profile, i dont see how it will help me

Depends. Do you have pics of yourself on facebook doing bro signs with these guys???

Seriously, use common sense. If it's a normal profile they are not going to give a damn.

If there's nothing objectionable on there you've got nothing to worry about. If you don't have anything questionable going on in your life getting a security clearance isn't nearly as difficult as people make it out to be.

You could argue that someone with an open/public profile may not be suitable to handle high security issues. I see twitter as a problem, but facebook mabe a gray area.

I will untag myself from photos i dont like, but i have nothing to hide

Not sure about other social networking sites, but doesn't giving yourself an alias on on Facebook defeat the purpose of it?

If you're fine with a future employer seeing everything you've ever done on facebook, then you're good.

If you make your profile private, doesn't that make your profile invisible to everyone but your friends list?

If it's completely locked down I don't see how it can hurt you...

It should, yes. So it should not be pissible without creative intrusuion to view my posts,

Im just wondering if the "idea" of social networking fr a high level security person could be a liability, thus seen as a negative

correct. you can even make it so you don't turn up in a search.....

this is a non-issue. just crank up your privacy settings.

Yup

I have a couple friends who changed their facebook name so they couldn't be found, which they changed right back after realizing they actually have control over how much strangers can see.
