Facebook 101 question for anyone on it

I haven't been on facebook but I hopped on there and added a friend to my list by adding my email contacts. A moment later I tell her I'm on there and suddenly her friends that were visible to the public disappears.

Is there any way this could have disappeared other than that person going in and explicitly changing their preferences?

It's not that I gave a shit, right up until they disappeared and made me believe I'm not supposed to be seeing something. After asking her about this she explicitly says she didn't touch anything.

OWNED.

Not so much, it wouldn't be surprising to me at all. Really it would be a disappointment in someone, if she's generally a liar I'd rather just fill that gap with more trustworthy people. I just wanted to get enough nerd consensus on this where I could just point her to this poll and be done with it.

Oh please. Just ignore it. If she told you the truth, she'd have to tell you why, and there's obviously someone in there (or some photos her friends have up) that she doesn't want you to see. I'm sure you can think of a situation where you'd do the same thing.

Clearly.

I think that if you create groups for your friends (i.e. "Work Friends" "College Friends" "HS Friends") you can define privacy settings for those groups. She put you into a group, and she had restrictive privacy settings for that group. It's not necessarily that she doesn't want you to see stuff, but she put you in a group with friends that she wouldn't want to see stuff.

She could have put you on a limited profile. But it would be odd to have your friends list available to the public (i.e. non-friends) - and then restrict it from certain friends.
