Since Israel and the Palestinians are in the news again, I thought now might be a good time to add some context by starting a discussion about Islam. A greater understanding of the nature of this religion might add context to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Which culture is more likely to be on the side of reason and individual rights?
This is old news, but a search of this forum for "Aisho" failed to bring in any hits and I think that her story needs to be told in order to add context to our understanding of Islam. Also, this poor murder victim needs to be remembered.
A 13 year old Somalian girl, Aisho Ibrahim Dhuhulow, was murdered by stoning in Somalia in April 2008. She had been gang-raped by 3 people and then notified the authorities (al-Shabab).
Stoning Victim 'Begged for Mercy'
Of course, honor killings of women still occur frequently in the Arab world.
If you are a Muslim, how does this story make you feel? In your view, are the stone throwers and authorities responsible for this true Muslims? Was this stoning consistent with Sharia Law and Islam?

(According to another source, this removal, examination, and reburial process was carried out three times. I can't find a direct site for this (Amnesty International maybe?) but I've seen it written at numerous blogs.)Court authorities have said the woman came to them admitting her guilt.
She was asked several times to review her confession but she stressed that she wanted Sharia law and the deserved punishment to apply, they said. But a witness who spoke to the BBC's Today programme said she had been crying and had to be forced into a hole before the stoning, reported to have taken place in a football stadium. "More than 1,000 people arrived there," he said. "After two hours, the Islamic administration in Kismayo brought the lady to the place and when she came out she said: 'What do you want from me?'" "They said: 'We will do what Allah has instructed us'. She said: 'I'm not going, I'm not going. Don't kill me, don't kill me.' "A few minutes later more than 50 men tried to stone her."
---------------
According to Amnesty International, nurses were sent to check during the stoning whether the victim was still alive. They removed her from the ground and declared that she was, before she was replaced so the stoning could continue.
