But, I dont care about action, as long as the story and character development of you and your party members is at least on par with the first two acts of NWN2, never finished the final act, for I encountered a good amount of bugs and got bored with it towards the end of act II and ended up uninstalling it, waiting for them to fix it.
I thought NWN2 did a better job with the story. You also don't get party members in Fable, you get one character. I did do most of the side quests in Fable, but I just really couldn't get into it, it's just not my game.

I'm, unfortunately, in the same boat with NWN2. I had a blast until the end of Act 2 or so, then bugs helped ruin the game for me.

Didn't see anything on the copy-protection *HIT LIST*

nothing at all like NWN2 [thank the gods ... it is NOT buggy crap ... NWN2 Act3 was a *bugFest*] ... think "DM M&M with more RPG" ... or Gothic 3 ... maybe Oblivion with a lot more emphasis on *choice*

as to the story ... it is NOT long-drawn-out like NWN2 ... more quickly to the point and the S-Quests aid the plot development

You get "helper companions" ... and i think you can get more than one ... but you don't get 'their story' [like NWN] ... think, more like Oblivion, the Story is *about You* - the Hero and how you choose.

As to "hack and slash" ... yep it's a "shooter" ... but with finesse ... rather like Gothic3 where you can *power* your way thru it by smashing the left mouse button.... BUT ... IF you like attack and defence combos, you can appreciate it

and i have about 10 hours into in ... nowhere near done with the MQ ... :p

yes ... you CAN *race* thru in in ten hours ... but you *miss* the fun ;)
i am THOROUGHLY ENJOYING this game and savouring every bug-free minute
[to be "fair" i had ONE crash to desktop ... and a couple VPU "recoveries" - where the game does not crash - my PS is very marginal for a x1950p]

Damn, this is the WORST save system that I have ever seen. Any mod to give it a real save game system?

first of all ... my x1950p died :p
:(

secondly ... there is a "world Save" that is EXACTLY the same as a 'regular save'

HOWEVER, if you are in the MIDDLE of a Quest..... you cannot do it ... you must do a *hero save* which just saves your stats [if you die, you start over in the Quest (only) but keep the stuff you got till that point]

'World save' is a form of cheating

and No patch evidently is needed ... my only crashes were caused by my failing x1950p

Fable was ok but I would rate it more cutesy than complex. I thought NWN2 was a better game (esp if some decent mods come out for it). Really wish atari wasn't the distributor ../..

NWN2's *potential* was far more complex ... it just turned out to be a disaster because of the early release/bugs

Fable is "cutsey" ... but pulls it off for adults ;)

and i was mistaken in the last post ... "Hero Save" is more of a cheat since you get to ReStart your Quest with the gained experience from the Quest up till that point

"World Save" of which i have 25 ... so far ... is IDENTICAL to an "anytime save" ...

hang in there, your newly eliteness :D
[congrats, Schadenfroh]

oh yeah, i get my *replacement* 7800GS Wed

There were a couple elements of Fable that I enjoyed quite a bit, but the combat was ultimately what ruined the game for me, very gimmicky. If the combat had been more responsive and challenging and the quests had meant more, I think the game would have been a lot more rewarding. I'm hoping Fable 2 corrects some of this.

*gimicky* ?

how so? .... i found it pretty good and i like the attack and defense combos with the mouse
[it reminded me of Gothic3 ... better than Oblivion's BUT you CAN just 'power thru' by mashing the left button]

i won't be back to playing Fable till tomorrow night ... with a nvidia card :Q

Yay, I got screwed by the save system yet again! I was on that last part of the escort of the traders quest when that earth elemental glitched me by pinning me against the rocks and pounding the living crap out of me. I could not even get up in time to fight back between rock throwings! Thirty minutes of my life down the drain due to the worst saving system ever created!

Anyway to enable god mode to keep this from happing again in case I get glitched? (I cant seem to find any cheat codes, I dislike having to cheat, but with a poor save system and bugs, I will have to, cant find any god mode codes)

do you not *understand* the save system?

you can save ANYTIME using "World Save" ... identical to "anytime save"

EXCEPT during a Quest ... when you were starting to die by being pinned by that Troll, do a *Hero Save* and all your experience and gold and whatever is saves so you ReStart the Quest with those things so you only lost a little "time".

And i have over 25 hours into it ... am married twice ... had sex 20 times ... aged to 62 then had my youth restored back to 50 ... mostly *good to the max* ... but do occasional evil if the *price is right* ;)
[like *sacrificing my followers* at the evil temple to get youth and weapons and MASS evil points then teleporting to the *good temple* to Donate big bucks and get Mass Good points]

i am guessing 35 hours to do *everything* and am having a *blast*

almost died laughing when the teacher read one of my books - "The Sock Method" [about sex] - to children and the Hero had to demonstrate ...
:D

Or at Rose Cottage where i couldn't figure how to open the Demon Door there

+mini Spoilers+

So i gave it a *Rose* and it popped right open

:Q

nearby ... in the middle of *no place* my "spade" symbol flashed and i got Silver Key #15

ANYway, i finished all my Optional Quests except for a little *clean up* and i have the last of the MQ ahead ... then a Choice to pick super Evil or Super Good ... then Start over with a badass weapon and turn as Evil as possible for Part Two

so yeah ... for $10 ... Awesome ... for $20, still highly recommended

I understand the save system just fine. If I did not, I would be out of far more than just 30 minutes at that point in the game, as I do a world save before the start of any quest. My gripe is that one SHOULD be able to save DURING a quest like normal games, the save system also sends me to a predefined location in the map and causes all the mobs to respawn when I load it, this is also crappy, for it should remember WHICH mobs that I killed and WHERE I was at when I did a world save. Size of saved games are not a problem on the PC and the developers SHOULD have put a REAL saving system into this game rather than leave the console save system which caters to memory sticks. Having to go 30 minutes to an hour without being able to do a proper save is a pain when on a quest given the possibility of a glitch or having to shutdown my machine on short notice.

Between this and NWN2, I think I should just give up games and sit my ass down in front of a TV, they seem to piss me off more than I get enjoyment from them as of late.

That is.... at least until Dragon Age from Bioware.

Bah, I will just go to sleep.

My gaming machine is finally finished, and I had been looking forward to getting Fable. I have about 6 hours on the clock now, and I'm loving the game. Force Push is awesome. So when my wife is home, we are playing Guild Wars, and then when I play solo, I'm playing Fable. :)

sorry for your frustration ... and ...

during a Quest? :Q

like *normal games*? ... like Far Cry? ... or Giants:CK? ... if you like, i can name *more* games without "Anytime save" :p

i believe they did this *on purpose* ... you'll see when it get's *harder* ... your STRATEGY will change ... it doesn't bother me at all because it is not a bug ... like the endless ones in NWN2 ... Fable is just way too easy without it ;)

also ... Mobs DO respawn .. it depends on the 'area' ... and some NPC enemies respawn CONTINUALLY ... so you have to fight the *urge* to "fight" and just RUN past them to complete the objective.

at ANY rate, i finished the MQ as super-goody-two-shoes ... and am playing the PC's "extra content"

the story is *solid* and the ending makes sense ...

and i am looking forward to replaying from when i am *totally evil*

*AT LEAST* 30 hours if you do *everything*

btw, Trolls are easy if you know their weakness and how to handle them ... i don't it was a "glitch" -- at all.

and do a *Hero Save* if you are near the end of your life and potions are running low ...
ME? ... i had over 600 potions at then end of the game ... couldn't lose ANY boss battles as my Hero's stats were almost completely maxed out ... and some weapons are beyond cool

I do not care about other games, only the ones I play. The vast majority of modern PC FPS and RPGs have an anytime save and thus it is "normal" to have an anytime save. The only games that I have played without an "anytime save" were FarCry and Diablo 2 (could not save your location or mob spawns, kinda like fable's heroic save on exit). I did not like either of them. Farcry's only saving grace was the amazing graphics and Diablo 2's call to fame was its multiplayer that was destroyed by the cheaters.

Anyhoo I've been lurking in this thread for a few weeks now, just wanted to say thanks for the heads up. This will be my next gaming purchase since I finally finished Final Fantasy 7 last night. I started FF7 about 5 years ago and stopped playing after a while, but over the past week I have been working on it again :)

cheers

dude, the Fable Devs did it *on purpose*
:Q

-- at this point i'd suggest a strategy walkthru for you if you find it too hard ... it is very different than Oblivion or DM M&M or Gothic or ... any other. :p

Fable is WAAY too easy if it had *anytime save* during a quest ... and you have to learn how to face Trolls ... they *Do* that to you ... you have to *get out of the way* ... just like the beating you get in Gothic3 when you are down.

and mobs DO respawn in Fable ;)

i like the quirky differences ... not like a *generic* "Action-adventure/RPG. :p

The saving system was indeed done on purpose, to reduce the file size of saved games. Having to store your specific location, which mobs you killed, and what specific part of the quest you are on all takes extra space (look at the size of NWN2's saved games versus Fables). This is done for console players who are either using memory cards or have smaller hard drives than their PC counterparts.

nonsense

they have *anytime save* for 90% of the game - EXCEPT during a Quest
[they are making you *learn strategy*]

clearly Fable has the *ability* to "anytime save" ... they are not doing it for your silly reasons

you want me to send your $10 back ?

:D

what is it you don't get?

there are only *fifty slots* ... that is the "limitation" in consoles that is directly ported to the PC version ... those fifty slots could ALL be 'anytime save' without any difference in memory or "space" --IF the Devs "chose" to make it so

--the games you are contrasting with have almost UNLIMITED slots ;)

i would have agreed with you ... after only a few hours into the game ... keep playing if you can handle it ... it gets better

edited ... again

Meh, I probably should just play the dang game instead of complaining.

Cant expect modern games to be as good as my "old" favorites anyways.
