F2P MMO's = Free to Play Massively Multiplayer Online

P2P MMO's = Pay to Play Massively Multiplayer Online

I have played a few free to play MMO's such as Hero Online, Legend of Aries, Silkroad Online and Fly For Fun (flyff)

In my opinion the best one for free is Fly For Fun though it is purely just a grindfest from level 1 to maximum level.

As for the pay to play MMO's in my opinion World of Warcraft is currently one of the best MMO's out but it is SO dumbed down to a kids level I have literally seen a 5 year old get to level 60 just button smashing... sad but true :-(

What do you guys like playing or are currently playing?

EVE Online...great game, very complex, very long term (much longer than WoW), generally much more mature community than other MMOs

oh its P2P...ranging from 12-15$/month depending on subscription duration

Yeah I have heard of Eve Online but right now I am waiting for "Age of Conan" that game is made by Funcom and from what I seen from Funcom they know how to make a fun game that is original. Many others are waiting for Vanguard but that game looks way to similar to EQ2 and EQ2 did not impress me much at all...

i hate when people say eve is more mature than eevry other mmo. when people say this, i really wonder if they actually play it at all because when i payed it, there was plenty of immaturity and noobishness.

I've been playing Final Fantasy XI for around 3 years now, no real intention to stop in the near future.

WoW has very little appeal to me, personally.

Final Fantasy XI was fun but I did not like that you could not solo and the whole interface where you used sololy the keyboard was wierd! Plus the crafting in FFXI was insanely slow!

But I am myself waiting for Age of Conan that game looks awsome as hell...

Yeah, I guess you could consider the lack of soloing a downside. Then again, if I really wanted to solo, I'd just go play a single-player RPG and not mess with the monthly fee that a MMORPG entails.

i hate that excuse...you're not going to be able to get in a group all the time so you have to solo. some people don't want to group all the time either. god i hate when people say that. its a massively multiplayer game meaning there are other people playing with you. its not a massivle multiplayer grouping game...

Well, really, getting a group is only difficult when you're dealing with people who are stuck into a cookie-cutter party mindset. They find a particular combination of jobs that works pretty well and then refuse to even try alternatives. Unfortunately, this does seem to occur fairly regularly in FFXI, perhaps due to the age of the game now, and how long many of the players have been active.

Additionally, there are jobs in FFXI that are capable of soloing or duoing quite well. It just often takes a completely different mindset and approach from playing the same job in a full party configuration. Certainly, I'm not against having the ability to solo in a MMORPG; it's just not something that draws me to them, personally. Perhaps that's why I play white mage, a true support job that really excels in a party situation.

On a side note, other than Vanguard, are there any other major MMORPGs on the horizon? Despite regular updates, XI is starting to show its age, and Square Enix continues to irk me by not dropping PS2 support in favor of a real graphics engine.
