F150 Steering wheel dryrot?

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I've got a 2009 f150 with 33k or so miles on it. I don't drive it too often and it's usually parked in my driveway. A year so ago, I noticed that the portion of the steering wheel closest to the windshield was starting to get pitted. I've read some people talk about Plastidip. I'm wondering what the best solution is to keep the problem from getting worse, without replacing the steering wheel or dealing with a cover. It's just cheap plastic/poor quality and sun damage. I've never had this happen on a vehicle before, except for a boat back in the 80s.
