F1 2010 is pretty frustrating.

I was picking up a movie at Blockbuster and saw it in the bargain bin for $5, so I figured WTH.

After starting a medium career (I always play a season on medium before going expert) I spent a good bit of time figuring out that first circuit during practice and had it down pretty well. I qualified 6th, which I thought was decent for my first try at the game. I was looking forward to race day.

It didn't take long for that feeling to go away:

1) I drove the first hairpin exactly the same way I practiced it. I've been playing F1 games long enough to know that getting through the first turn unscathed is one of the top objectives in any race so I always treat it with great care. No such luck this time - I knicked the side of the track (something I had done during practice and qualifiying without much issue), and the game decided to spin me out in spectacular fashion, putting me at the back of the field.

2) No big deal, I thought. I'll just use this race to gather experience and see how many places I can make up; it'll be fun. Wrong again - the first guy I catch up to turns in on me as I'm making the pass and gives me a love tap. 10 second penalty for me.

3) At this point I'm still keeping my cool. After going through the pits I start to find a groove, and a few laps later I'm again at the back of the 23rd place car. Taking extreme care I pick a good place to pass, only to have the DB check up on me for no reason I could see. I barely (and I mean barely) tapped him from behind and the game spun ME out. It was like the hand of God decide to treat my car like a top. I almost laughed.

4) Now I was getting a bit frustrated but still pressed on. A little while later I caught the last few cars again, and actually managed to overtake 2 of them. So I'm entering one of the last turns, thinking "22nd sucks, but at least I'm not last like a complete loser", approach it the same way as every other lap.....

....and the game spins me out again, allowing the two guys behind me to pass me. I did absolutely nothing that I hadn't done on every previous lap.

My controller went flying for the first time in a while. At least 2 hours down the drain; if that's how Codemasters "keeps it real" I don't think I have much interest in continuing this series.

Getting spun out for no reason in F1 2010 happens a lot. I've had the same damn thing happen to me quite a bit. The curbs can go to hell. What's even worse is the overly cautious pit release bug. I've gone from first to last because of the pits. Thankfully it's easy to fix by altering your pit strategy to pit two laps later. Now, you want real frustration? Play on Expert difficulty. Good lord, so much aggravation.

A little tip, to slow down you don't always need to use the brakes. It's amazing the difference in lap times when you really learn to drive a track.

I basically know I lack the skill to be decent at F1 games so I don't bother with them. I may try one after I get a Fanatec wheel setup, but I would guess I will still suck.

I bought the "simulator-like" BS and preordered. Massive disappointment. rFactor with F1 mods is WAY better than this garbage. Codemasters has not done a realistic racing game of any type in a while.

They get good access to the cars, teams, data. WHY THE HECK CAN'T THEY HAVE A SLIDER FOR SIMULATION..NOVICE..ARCADE AND HAVE IT DONE RIGHT!! I don't get it.

For anyone that bought 2011, did they fix some of this stuff?
I played the first track(Bahrain?) so many times in 2010, due to restarting over and over because something retarded like you mention happened. I maybe raced Australia 3 or 4 times and didn't TOUCH any of the other tracks. I was trying to get a reasonable finish in the first track, and just couldn't no matter how well I thought I drove or pitted. Surely, I couldn't suck at a racing game that badly?
Nope, that game was frustrating.

It's worse on PC btw, it's a PAIN to drive with a mouse and KB

Surely you don't have to drive with kb/mouse, do you? I've never played the PC version, but if it's anything like the PS3 version I' really glad I never bought it, even on super-sale.

1)I think Codemasters admitted fault with the curbs being waaay to sensitive. They fixed that in 2011. In fact, they fixed a bunch of stuff. But the curbs were the dumbest part of F1 2010.

I did at first just give it a go, then I started using my left over DS3 controller.
