F! Monitor isn't turning on

edit: can probably ignore the OP here, scroll down one post or two.

My monitor (in sig) won't turn on. When i try to turn it on the light goes green for less than a second, then it goes to being off again, kind makes a weird noise when i press the button too. So it's probably at the end of it's life. Had kinda bad ghosting problems anyways. I got it about a year 1/2 ago out of a bad ebay deal i got screwed on. It served me pretty well though actually, surprised it lasted so long.

I don't want to give up on it 100% yet though, don't suppose there is anything i could do right now to try and fix it or test it or something? It's probably not worth getting repaied. Off i go to the Hot Deals and the For Sale forums to look for a new monitor while i wait for responses.

Good news!... Perhaps. Upon further inspection i think the button just might be broken. If i press the "Monitor On" button and keep pressing it in the whole time, the monitor seems to work fine. Unfortunately i still don't know how to fix that. Obviously i don't want to have to hold in the monitor button all the time. Any help would be really appreciated. I'm typing via my TV now 😛 - Thanks.

bump because i'm straining my neck trying to use my TV as a monitor :disgust: - Someone help if they can. anyone else ever had a broken monitor button? I really have no idea how i'm going to fix this without opening up the front panel (if it's even possible without a whole lot of risk)

Sorry for another bump. Thanks for reading.

I have the exact same problem.

I have not yet taken it in to be fixed but I think that the problem is much more serious than the switch.

If it were the switch, it wouldn't do anything.

I think it's the power system, and an expensive repair. But probably worth it to me. (The local place said $200 labor plus whatever parts).

Well, hopefully it's not the power system. My monitor seems to run fine if i just hold down the on/off button, but then again i never turned off my monitor in the first place, it turned itself off. So that's not a good sign. I suppose i'll have to take it somewhere. Local computer repair always sucks though. Plus this monitor weighs like a thousand lbs.

Oh, then it's different. Mine does not stay on. Sometimes the little power light goes yellow then off, sometimes nothing happens.

Your does sound like it might be less severe.

Yeah hopefully no big deal. First that came to mind when i noticed it's likely a probably with the button was that it would be an easy fix, then i realized i can't really do anything, thus it's not an easy fix - There's no place to unscrew the front panel or anything like that.

Another edit: I've used my smarts to fix the problem myself, at least temporarily. I used a Guitar Capo. Screwed it on tightly in place and it holds down the monitor button so my monitor works. For some reason the Guitar Capo was the first thing that came to mind when i was thinking of a tool i could use to keep the monitor button held down. Looks like it was made just for this purpose 😛
