Excuse my language but some f**king cubans just stole some of my stuff.

New wife and I got back from honeymoon last night from Cuba. We had two bags going in, two going out. On the way in once we got to hotel we found that the large suitcase lock was gone. No problem, they were checking for drugs. Get back yesterday the lock on small one is gone. No problem, checking for drugs...

Except in fact the f**king cubans at the airport just rifle through bags and take whatever. They took my nice camera (didn't even leave the film out of our pics; but we did have 2 disposable that were still there at least), Emily's jewelery, and my grandfather's gold windup watch which I keep an eye on at all times but we had absolutely no room for it in carry on.

Should I be surprised? Damn, half the people there drive around in beatup old 50's cadillacs and thunderbirds. I bet the f**ks just go through all the "rich tourists" bags. Its a small airport at least and we had it insured. Once airline calls their cuban counterparts maybe they can narrow down who took our stuff and let fidel go hog on them.

Coming from a third world country, tho, Im not surprised to hear your story. when I travel home Skoorb, no lie: I hide all my jewelry in the most unlikely place(like in an old bag or sock stuffed inside a tennis shoe), I keep my money and my camera in the bag looped around my arm and waist with a death grip, and here's the key to getting past the inspection guards: I dress decently but nicely, no jewelry, have my hair in a do and (i'm embarrassed to say this) showing a little cleavage and leg. Just a little. But seriously, I've been in airport scrapes and thanks to the way I travel I havent lost much and often they wave me by with a smile without inspecting my stuff.
Last time I went down I was in huge trouble. I had misplaced a vital piece of paper needed for my exit out of the country. The guy was furious and told me I was irresponsible. I am a modest and shy girl, most of the time, but I KNEW I was in a huge fix. I let my eyes get MOIST and blink back tears and leaned over and said, &quot; Ay, Se~nor! como puedo arreglar esto? que puedo hacer para remediarlo?&quot;(oh sir how can fix this? what can I do to remedy this?)
NO LIE, he looked at me and said: &quot;Well, I'll let you go this time. I'll see that you get the paper when you leave. But don't ever lose it again!&quot;
I smiled and wiped my crocodile tears and thanked him profusely and walked outta there without even getting my 2 bags checked.
It pays to be sneaky.
And BTW, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I'm so happy for you! May you two have a long and wonderful life together

Sorry if original thread title offended. I did add a disclaimer at the bottom of thread though. Most of the cubans we met were nice! I guess I'm just annoyed because these particular theiving cubans were not.

I've been to about 10 countries now so international travel isn't new. What is new is having stuff stolen. On the plus I've learned a lesson which perhaps I should have known already; but even my mother while agreeing that it was a lesson learned said she's never had stuff stolen.

We went to cuba because its very cheap! We know a whole whack of people who go there quite often. Coming from Toronto its not too big a deal. I don't think they see many American tourists though! BTW Emily told her father and he was kind enough to tell us (now not before the trip!) that her cousin had an entire suitcase simply taken coming out of Cuba because it was full of nice stuff.
