F@H: WE NEED HELP FAST!!! EDIT:DPC has beaten us!

I'm trying to get my Dad's system upgraded to an XP 2000 (from a K6-2 450). I'll throw F@H on there when that time comes (a week or so).

Freewolf,

The DPC have had a recruiting drive on their board, Tweakers, esp. for F@H. That resulted in quite some new members for that project.

That's why the sudden increase in WU's for DPC F@H. 😉

They had over 120 new members inside a week. I think that is pretty amazing.
 
I'll be borging a few machines this week but are mostly low powered machines.

1 PIII 1Ghz
1 PII 450Mhz
1 Dual PPro 200Mhz

They will be folding 24/7 though with minor other use.

this is my first go at DC. i have 2 of my pcs setup. the first is a p3-700 laptop, which probably won't help much since it's only on during the hours i'm using it. the second is my p4-1.6a@2.2GHz, which should be a workhorse 99% of the time while i'm not gaming or editing vids.

i have a 3rd that i'm using purely as a webserver. being a DC n00b, i'm not sure if it's a good idea to use a server for DC. any thoughts on lagging services or security issues using f@h on an apache/sql/php server?
 
Good to hear F@H gaining some members🙂

Personally I don't know anything about F@H but I'd imagine that like most DC projects the program runs on a low priority so if any other program needs the power it'll get it.
I wouldn't of thought a webserver is CPU intensive ,is it?

Any F@H folks know better?

F@H runs at the lowest priority possible by default, so it will give up CPU cycles to anything that needs them. The only thing I'd be concerned about is memory usage; if your server only has 128MB of RAM or less, there could be a problem with excessive swapping.
 
I've always been intrigued by this concept. I signed up and have two servers, a laptop and another desktop running f@h. At the end of the week I'll start a few more. I need to learn a bit more about the clients and then I can get a few more boxes up.

Just added my Athlon 1900+ to the fray...I almost never use it, so it should be cracking often. I may have a chance to add some DC clients to some servers (gotta talk to my boss) in the near future, we are currently setting up a lab. We have 2 racks of p2 400's, (20 per rack) and one rack of p4 2.6 800 HT's. What DC project should I use? I know I can get it on workstations once we are up and running too, but I"m not sure about servers.
 
Well seeing as the this is a F@H thread it might be a little rude to suggest others here😉,I'm sure they'd appriecate the extra power ,& you do have a load there!:Q

If you wanta run some other projects too thats your choice of course ,I think you can guess my favourite😉

It does seem to pause for a bit at the "Entering M.D." stage; the wait seems to be quite a while (relatively) even for my Athlon XP 1.67GHz (overclocked from 1.4GHz, default 1700+ speed). Hopefully yours gets into some frames soon enough. 🙂
 
ty jliechty & Assimilator1. i'll give my server a go at F@H. it has a PIII-450 with 256MB ram, and i don't see much swapping (if any) most of the time. my forums can require some cycles when they are active, but i'll test to see if F@H is stealing any.

btw, after getting my first few WUs, it felt good to say i've done my good deed for the day!

Looking to upgrade soon! Got the server, my rig, my wife's and my daugther's folding 24/7. StrongShock, the server's a dual Plll 800 running two FaHs at the same time with 384mb ram and it's doing just fine 🙂
