TeAm News

Ranking: 25th place.

Production = 70,933 ppd (as of midnight Eastern 8/23/2005) - up 20,000 since Friday

Active Users = 208 - up 43 since Friday

As you can see the big "freebie" points are pouring in from Stanford. No idea how long this will last but obviously it's playing havoc on our ppd/user count numbers and those of the teams around us. Please take all of this with a grain of salt 🙂

One new user: please welcome FreshFish_ATOT to the TeAm!

welcome fresh fish 🙂

thanks kb3edk  as always.

so what does this points adjustment bonanza mean anyway? are these legitimate points that were never properly calculated and are now being adjusted?

and congrats everyone 🙂

Thanks for the stats kb3edk

According to the Stanford forums (Vijay Pande) they are checking and re-checking the validity of these gimmies. Several people are insisting they have carefully watched their scoring and did not miss units they are now being given credit for, but Pande group says these are real none the less.

It's a computer re-adjustment of some "lost" units. It's generoous though and it may have awarded points for units you didn't crunch. Oh well...

keep folding!!!

i've got a question.

why is my queue always empty? i just get the wu i am working on. is there a way to load a few wu's at a time or is that a by-gone feature?

i apologize in advanced if its in the faq and i missed it. 🙂

It won't queue wu's. Sucks because there have been times when my machines went offline before they could upload a completed unit. Nothing like having a machine offline for 24+ hours. Oh well.

To fill the queue you have to config to do WUs without deadlines and minimize networking.

If you do this you will have NO chance of getting bonus WUs, but it is a good way to keep a rig crunching for a long time with no internet connection.

Another way to keep a machine folding if you are going to be away for a short while is to run two instances (with different MachineIDs) or set one instance to start up later (or when computer is idle) with Scheduled Tasks. The "-oneunit" flag is handy for this. Then use "-send all" flag to send in results without getting another WU when you get home.

Just remember that normal WUs have deadlines that vary from protein to protein.

If you have any questions or need any help, just ask!

ok Gleem i think i understand. one problem is that i don't see the machine id in my configure panel? do i have the wrong version?

Oops! If you are going to try two instances, you can run one GUI and one console or two consoles. You CANNOT run two GUIs at the same time because you cannot set a different MachineID. The console must be in its own directory and add the "-local" flag to the startup shortcut.

If you don't have hyperthreading or dual core or dual processors you will lose some cycles to task switching by having two same priority processes running at the same time.

One way around this is to run one instance at the default "idle" priority and the second at "low" priority. I find this to work very well.

Remember that some BigWUs take quite a bit of ram and two of them take twice as much. You don't want to be swapping to disk - hard on system and points per day (ppd)

Be warned that the instance at lowest priority will still get some cycles and so take up memory.

I added an Athlon XP 2200+ running Windows 98SE. I set it up for a friend to play an old game that refuses to run on XP, so I figured, why not run F@H on it?

EDIT: Looks like I hit 6,000 WUs 🙂 Also, what is the project rank? It looks like a composite score of time\points but I'm not really sure.

Yep, project rank is your rank among everybody.

EOC all users link - you can even show overtake.

I've been following my project rank for a month now and it is frustrating!

You pass someone and then get passed right away.
