Thanks for the stats kb3edk.

Congratulations to the MM's. 😎

Weather Report:

We just had a rip roaring line of thunderstorms go through. Since they were warning of lots of lightning I disconnected all my crunchers here at home even though I have surge protectors. Just got them back up to speed. (whew)

Weather man on TV reported over 4400 lightning strikes in an hour. They have equipment now that can count the strikes. And one of those babies hit right in front of my house. I saw it hit across the road but it was so close I could hear crackling in the air after the boom. :Q

It has all cleared out now and we are crunching merrily away.😀

I've got a quick question-how do you dump a work unit when running as a service? Secondly, should I dump a Gromacs unit that has been running on one of my boxes for a couple of days now, has 12 days to go, 4 hours per unit, and shows no credit or deadline under FAH LogStats.

The box is an AMD 2400+ with 512 MB of memory.

Unless you set it to ask upon completion of a WU before sending and receiving work, then it should send the unit automatically as soon as it's done. It is not possible to send a unit in before it's done unless there is a fault somewhere and it ends early. It is possible to delete a work unit if you really want to, but I'll leave that up to others to explain.

I don't think there is a WU out right now that will take that long to finish on your computer.

I suspect that the client restarted after an improper shutdown (crash?) and is now running using standard loops - no optimizations.

Look in the fahlog.txt file for a line like this:

[12:14:42] Assembly optimizations on if available.

If there is a line saying that the client was not properly shutdown and is now using standard loops, then it is going to take much longer to finish.

If you properly shutdown and restart the client it will run with optimizations.

To prevent this in the future add the -forceasm flag. This flag tells the client to not check how the client was previously stopped.

If this is not the case, report back and I or someone will give directions on how to delete WU.

EDIT: Could you find the name of the WU and report it here?

@Thump

Your optimizations ARE on.

p1144 is a preferred WU, it usually gives VERY good ppd.

Are you sure about the times you gave in previous post? (I wish you had included just a few more lines in your last post, just enough to see the time between frames/percent).

Is there anything else taking CPU cycles away from FAH?

GLeeM:

This is our game box, so it is running games a big chunk of each day (three different people). But it was just dormant for most of the night, and is still showing about an hour between units-the best I've seen on it in a couple of days. I guess I'll stick it out with this unit.

Thump:

One hour per percent comes out to 144 ppd for that 600 point WU.

Not much WU processing will get done while the computer is being used for CPU intensive gaming which is probably when you saw the 4 hour per frame time.
