Heh...I've been folding for almost a year without knowing it!!!

I set up a machine at my old job (someone else's pc) and apparently it's still running 😀. Yes, that person knew I set it up when I did, but we've obviously both forgotten about it.

Any who, I'm moving one of my distributed folding machines back to F@H and forgot how to hide the client. I thought there was a little utility that could hide the DOS box for you. Before you suggest it, I'd rather not install as a service.

Thanks folks! 🙂

FireDaemon?😀

Would be able to increase my output lots more if i can solve the problem below 🙁

Am having a totally weird problem which i had only encountered once before.

The problem is, i can't seem to setup services on several win2k computers. They'll keep failing to startup even if i try to start up the service manually from services utility in Administrative Tools.

Last time i encountered this problem was on my home server, my mail server services couldn't start at all. I couldn't find the problem so reinstalled win2k and it worked.

Now, the comp i use at my workplace, had no problems whatsoever installing F@H as a service using firedaemon or even that other nifty utility.

But the other computers couldn't get the service installed and started up. Totally weird. :|
About same configuration too, same windows versions etc. Am befuddled 😛

Check the account you are trying to run the service under. Does it have permissions to write to the F@H directory?

Electron Microscope may be just what you're looking for. Not only can it hide the taskbar button of the F@H CLI, but it can also hide its own system tray icon (though that requires a little text file trickery to bring it back once you've hidden it).

Also check the permissions on the F@H directory, the files therein, and the work directory. Try starting the F@H CLI in the F@H directory from a plain command prompt to see if that works. Also, make sure the "start this program in" directory is where the F@H executable is located (the F@H directory).

Thanks for the stats J

bunker, I think if you schedule the FAH3Console.exe to execute on system start up (windows task scheduler) it will not show when any user logs in.

I was using the Administrator account when trying to get the service to work. 🙁

The F@H cli works fine. Just can't get it to start as a service.

I'll switch over to electron microscope. I was using kdfold because it lets me monitor my DF client on my other box at the same time.

Thanks for the tips! 🙂

No the client doesn't even start when i try to start it as a service so there's no new entry in the log due to service startup failure.

I checked event viewer, failure of Fire Daemon's F@H service to start shows these 2 errors:

System Log:
The FireDaemon Service: FAH service terminated with the following error:
Incorrect function.

Application Log:
The service failed to initialize. Reason subprocess could not be spawned. Error detail: The handle is invalid.

Welcome to TeAm F@H lameaway😎

Congrats milestone makers!

Thanks for the stats fix jliechty
