Look at that output from IceCreamMan 480.4 points! wow thats amazing :Q

congratulations milestone makers and thanks jiliechty.

i need to say this:
even Vatikan condemned US & UK illegal attacks on Iraq
i will, too (i was in war, i know what is it, i hate it very much)
ill stop to support US DC projects
goodbye all!

I agree, some others here have stopped support of US projects too. But I believe that the F@H work will not be used for war uses, or it wouldn't make any difference if the project was, for example, French or German.

Anyway, thx for the stats. For the moment I'm continuing to support F@H...

Is this a joke? Assuming it is not, let's consider a few things:
  1. Are the backers of such needless slaughters as the Inquisition and Crusades really able to comment on the legality of the US + UK's actions?
  1. If your reasoning is based on the sanctity of human life, then would it not make sense to continue to support a project such as folding@home that is primarily around to help find cures for diseases to prevent people from suffering from afflictions?
  1. What is the connection between a private university's research project and a government's military action? We have a saying about this: "You are cutting off your nose to spite your face". We are not doing folding@home in any way to benefit any government. They would never receive a penny from this research. It is to benefit humanity as a whole. That is why it is worthwhile to do this project or DF, or Find-A-Drug, etc.

If you still feel you must go, I would really like to hear how a DC project such as folding@home encourages or supports war. If you can point this connection out to me, then I too will stop supporting this project and any other with similar connections.

Hmm, couldn't the results of F@H be used for developement of weapons of mass destruction? (its the same with almost everything. Nuclear power can be used as weapon, but it can be used the help the human race too). Not only the US can use it, but the Iraqi or North Korea etc. too. Anyway, it wouldn't make a difference if the university is in any other country... AFAIK the results are available to anyone, right? But UD, D2OL are working with the US government IIRC...

What the church did long time ago, well, yes, very terrible. But IMHO modern church doesn't have too much in common with that anymore. Not the one in Rome at least. When I read what some american priest are saying and writing... :Q The only thing I blame church for is that they are against condoms etc. You can't blame someone for doing something he didn't do. You can't blame a moslem for being moslem, you can't blame an american for being american! Or a jew for being jew. Russian being russian, german being german.

Another thing is: I think the problem with America is that they never had a real war (ok, civil wars maybe, but even that is very long ago). No real war in their own country, with millions of dead. I think Vietnam was the last time the Americans had great losses. It seems to me that Americans think that only those die, who deserve to die. No civilians, and no Americans.

Seriously doubt if you ever supported anything except yourself... good riddance

well i have a thunderbird 1.4 running at 1.54 and for some of the big workunits (p626) it takes around 20mins per frame, which means that it should take around 67hours to complete a 73 pionter. so approx 1piont an hour. so if you have your pc on for 90 hours a week you should be able to achive your goal.

I do agree with you, Saddam needs to be "removed". But the question is the when and how. Why just now? Why is Bush trying to start the war now? That Saddam is dangerous we all know... he is and was that long time ago already. Why can't Bush wait a little more? Saddam was giving in already... ok, I don't believe he would have given up, BUT at one point the rest of the world would have agreed with the war too. And a few more weapons would have been destroyed... less danger for the troops. The way Bush started the war... ignoring everyone, being a diplomatic catastrophe. He only made enemies. He tried to make everyone believe that there are no innocent dead. A bit more truth, a bit more patience, and there wouldn't be these anti-war protests, and America would have support from the other countries. Thats what I critizise. And that America plays the Sheriff... who gives them the right to spy on their own citizens and even worse, the citizens of other countries? Critizising China, but doing something similar themself.
And... what happens if Saddam and his sons are dead?

I understand your points, and do agree with some of them, but as has been pointed out by others, could we please keep the DC forum to DC topics (take the war and anti-war arguments to the appropriate thread in ATOT), and not get each other's blood pressures up by arguing about this stuff? Oh yea, let's bump the latest stats thread. Carry over discussions from the old one to the new, if necessary. Thanks again. 🙂
