Welcome to TeAm AnandTech F@H

TeAm News

Production = 46,877 ppd (as of 10:00am 7/16/2005) - down 1,300 ppd from Wednesday. It looks like Mark_F_Williams has been shutting it down over the last few days, but we are getting a good stream of new users, including very enthusiastic ones like Phaxmohdem! Older users like ShotgunSi are also red hot, and I will be looking to re-enter the top producers some time when my Athlon X2 shows up 😎

Active Users = 167 - up 1 from Wednesday 🙂

3 new users - please give a warm TeAm welcome to Wraithkiss, kresgefc, and rise4310! (kresgefc is my dad) 😀

Ranking: 25th place.

One current overtake target:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"General [M]ayhem" - 21st place - 42,410 ppd - overtake: 2007

One current threat:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Portugal@Folding" - 50th place - 77,092 ppd - overtake: October 2006

No current Challenges.

Useful getting started info can be found here: ProviaFan's FAQ and MDE's Start-up Guide

More detailed TeAm stats can be found on the EOC F@H stats page

New users will not appear until they have submitted a work unit under team #198

Milestones are as follows: 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, from 10,000 to 100,000 will be every 10k, and every 20K after 100,000. After 200,000 milestones will be given at 50k intervals

Thanks for the stats kb3edk!

and WELCOME to 😀 Wraithkiss, 😀 kresgefc, and 😀 rise4310 Great to have you with us!

I read they have suspended the QMD work units for a while because of instability. It's probably not wonderful news that this family of WUs is struggling, but it does show that F@H is making effort not to leave us hanging.
Now if we can just get them to modify their benchmarking and get these points evened out among the various Work Units. At least they don't seem to be trying to assign me so many of those doggy 7xx WUs lately. I'm happy not to be having to watch for them and use the -delete switch so often. (They gave me <1/2 the PPD of the other WUs)

Where'd you read that and when does it go into effect cause I'm still getting QMD's. My current one still has a few hours to go, so I'll let you know if I get another.

Not because of instability, they have been very stable.

It is because some people might not know that the -advmethods flag and BigWU client setting will get these QMDs on corporate computers or computers that the huge memory bandwidth use will affect. They are documenting and getting the word out now.

They will be back in a few days!

IMO (which means this is probably false) - it looks like some cutting edge experimental new science (beta WUs) will not continue to be worked on until after a new client (with settings to choose to do these) comes out. They are adversly affecting some corporate computers that people have set up to maximize their points, (instead of setting them up to not affect use of that computer. ) This will give those people time to change settings on their hundreds of computers. 😕

I found it at the F@H forums Here (fifth paragraph)

There is another thread under the general F@H section where some reactions are to be found Here

I didn't read it hard because my lowly AMD processor hasn't been dubbed special enough to merrit the code to support it.

PS: @Gleem: I stand corrected

Some details that have come out in the AMD vs. Intel antitrust lawsuit seem to indicate that Intel has been making their compilers purposely eff up code to make it run slower on AMD processors. This makes me sick. :|

It is disgusting. Just a huge pizzin' contest. They (both AMD and Intel) are playing dirty games to try and gain an upper hand. (Unfair licensing, code optimization, etc... )

God help the idea that making a better product could be seen and committed to as a winning strategy. Now days it seems like no one knows how to make any $$ unless they steal it. A sad state of affairs indeed.

I wouldn't push too hard for this, Sid!

When p1482 go to public beta they will be available to all that meet ram requirements and want them.

High end AMDs shine with these: just over an hour per frame. My Xeon takes 1:45 if nothing else is running and 2:06 with three E@H.

EDIT: In other words, your time is coming 😀

I can't lie to you.... it would be fun to feel like I had some sort of edge

but in all honesty, I really am ranting for fairness and would be thrilled if platform made no difference... even if it meant my relative production was less.

ever buy a car and find out some one else got it cheaper? Or the lady in the airline seat next to you... how did she spend $100 less for her seat not a foot from your own? With car dealerships, airlines, etc., How can you buy without feeling like someone else has done better with no explanation beyond "them's the rules". (ie: how can you participate without feeling you have been hozed?)

I only have 2 (now dated) computers and I will never win any race no matter how they score the Work Units.... I just want to see a level playing field.

PS: I haven't been pushing them at the F@H forums since my rants of a couple months ago.

So big WUs and -advmethods will allow me to get these, right? 😀

LOL, Not yet!
And they pulled them to fix a problem.

But would be interesting to see what the dual core would do with them.

They use lots of ram and most of the memory bandwidth so running two on dual CPU Intel platform doesn't help, because both CPUs use one memory bus. IIRC, the X2 has a bus for each core?
If X2 could do two at the same time with 1:20 frame times you would have 700 ppd

How does the X2 do on 1477 or 1478?

I just finished installing XP x64, and while I installed F@H right away (of course!), I only got a few [what seem to be] smaller Gromacs WUs. I'll certainly keep everyone updated if I get something unusual. 🙂
