F@H problem

Checked on both of my machines this morning, and they were both errored out. Looks like they had just completed a WU. Rebooted both, the one I re-checked had errored out again.

Running the F@H 4.0 Screensaver client. Thought maybe I had to upgrade to the 5.0 client, but I don't see a 5.0 Screensaver client available, only for the gui/command line whatever....

Any suggestions?

What does the log file say?

They may be having trouble sending the WU back, or getting a new one.

Yes, as Charlie says, if you could post your log file (FAHLog.txt), we might be able to diagnose the problem a bit more easily. :)

The v5 client has the screensaver built in to the GUI client. But, if you are using Windows 98, Stanford recommends you use the v4 CLI client instead. Are you overclocking your machines? That could cause errors. As the others have asked, please post the last 20 lines or so of your FAHLog.txt file so we can have a look see.

I'm at work atm, so I can't post the log file. Will do so when I get home. Running XP Pro on both...
Running them at stock speeds...

According to your log file, it's done 470 of 500 steps.

Open it up again, and see if it has added a few lines at the bottom.

Opened it again. Screensaver is up for a second, then it generates one of those "FAH blah blah has generated an error, do you want to send it to Microsoft..."

Uninstalled the screensaver 4.0 client on the other system. Re-booted. Re-installed. Same error. That log file is here...

The reason I went with the screensaver client, is because I want it to run when I'm not at my pc. Can I configure the 5.0 client/gui that way? So that it only runs when I'm away from my pc?

I think that's built-in to version 5.

Both of your log files look fine; the core seems to be engaging.

Check back in a couple of hours and see if it has finished any frames.

Per chance have you changed video drivers recently? If so, roll them back, or, keep the newer vid drivers and download the v5 GUI which has the screensaver built in, and give it a go.
Something else we can look at, there is a file named FAHLog-Prev.txt, maybe we could have a peek at the end of that log to possibly help figure out what the heck is going on.....

Only change I did to primary system was to install the Demo for Exigo, and I did get an "out of signal" error one time when I relaunched that. But that's it. No new video card drivers in a while. The other system hasn't had anything installed on it for a few weeks. Weird both would error out at the same time. Here's from the fahlog-prev log....

Gonna download 5 and see what that does..

Downloaded 5.0 client. Have it set to run as screensaver when system is inactive, and it seems to be working fine. Thanks for the effort guys.

Ooops?

Went to the F@H forum. Looks like I'm not the only one having problems. Also, can't get the screensaver option in version 5 to work either, others have posted about that problem as well on the F@H forums.... no fixes yet...

Sorry about the Oops, I had a bunch of questions, then edited them out and put in the Oops. It takes me a loooooong time to think and post :)

Did you see anything there about a way of using Task Scheduler to start F@H with a Task Scheduler setting of only run when the system is not being used?

No, I didn't see anything about Task Scheduler. It's something to consider.

But it sounds like the 5.0 client is buggy in regards to the screensaver option within it. Several others have reported that problem, so hopefully they'll get it fixed, and that will be it.
