F@H or UD

I am considering moving some of my SETI crunchers over to one of these projects and need some input.

Do we have a UD TeAm?

I would prefer CLI over GUI but seem to recall reading that the screen saver version of F@H is actually better....is this correct?

Is there anytype of caching program for either of these?

Any input would be appreciated, links would also be helpful😎

Checkout my sig for links for FaH, plus Virge is working to get the FaH page on AnandTech's team page up...you can also check out the locked thread at the top of the forum for more info on both.

We've found very little impact upon production between the CLI and Screensaver versions of FaH. It's that little that unless you want it to run as a hidden service, there's no reason to run it.

Both UD and FaH are setup that you can only run one wu per processor at a time as unlike Seti where they don't care about the order in which the wu are done so you can cache a bunch of wu to crunch, FaH and UD base their models on what has been done and send you your next wu based on what would be the next step for that protein. ( you can actually have FaH in different folders "working" at the same time with one processor, but each wu takes twice as long to do, and is generally only done for those times when you've crunched a wu and are waiting for Stanford to send you the next one)

We have both FaH and UD teams, both would welcome you with open arms🙂

Thanks for the info RustyNale.

I was fortunate to get some additional crunchers during the seti race I am in but only for temp use. It now appears I may be able to continue to run some of them if it is for something other than seti. Hopefully you will see a new member of the F@H TeAm sometime in the near future.

Thanks again🙂

ICXRa: Just curious, how come it's okay to run a DC project as long as it isn't SETI? Is it because of a problem with the client (Outlook pause) or does someone have a problem with the SETI project itself? BTW, I'm *not* trying to talk you into keeping them on SETI, just curious as to the reasoning. Good luck in your race! 🙂

The outlook problem has not been mentioned. I was told I could use these boxes for awhile to run seti on and have been asked how much longer I was going to need them. I read into this that I would not be able to continue running seti on them for much longer. My output has gone from low 20's to the high 50's with just a few additions. As opposed to just letting go of these crunchers I mentioned the possibility of starting a two member name team and crunching for the TeAm for F@H or UD. The network admin at our other location liked this idea. He is into DC just not so much into seti. There are plenty other boxes going unused....maybe I'll get lucky and keep the current seti ones going and add on additional ones for F@H. This is not likely but you never know. Fingers crossed
🙂
