F@H: Got AMBER?

I just noticed that one of my systems was running FAHCore_82 and a p1800_Collagen_PPG10_restrained_unfolding. Anybody else got these? 🙂

Update, on an 800MHz AMD Duron:
AMBER: p1800_Collagen_PPG10_restrained_unfolding 77 points, 46 PPD
GROMACS: p1275_proj1275_A21ext_d19_99phi 46 points, 16 PPD

Notice the big difference! I hypothesize that Gromacs doesn't do as well when it doesn't have SSE, but I really don't know. We'll have to wait for a Tinker to hit that box before I can have a complete comparison, because I'm not going to give up points by turning off Big WUs on my one system that can handle them... 😉

Both the clients running on this machine got the same protein right now. That's about as odd as I've gotten. 1300 is highest project I've recieved AFAIK.

that's a beta WU.....are you a beta tester ? are you using any flags ?

don't think that WU is out for general consumption just yet.

It has been released to general folding community. http://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummary.html

Amber is like an advanced Tinker, it gets more science done in the same amount of time, it can do things that Tinker cannot. It has been around for quite awhile on beta and advmethods, though I haven't done one - not a BigWU.

I remember having some WUs with Amber in their name some time ago....

IIRC, the PPD for them really blew oats

Is this new flavor any better? What kind of time/frame are you seeing on it? How does it compare with one of the 600 pt. WUs?

Yeah, I'd like to know ppd compared to other WUs too.

Amber is a newer core.

Different from Gromacs and Tinker.

F@H LogStats isn't telling me anything, so I guess I'll need to get an updated point file for it (time to find that thread we had about custom point files...). Anyway, the p1800_Collagen_PPG10_restrained_unfolding is worth 77 points, and on the 800MHz AMD Duron processor with 256MB of PC/100 SDRAM, I get around 24 minutes per frame, so assuming 100 frames per WU, that means approximately 46 points per day for that processor. Since that system is very much set-and-forget, I don't currently have comparative numbers for Tinker and Gromacs WUs, though if I get another one of those after this one is done, I can provide updates then. My faster system is running Big WUs, and my 500MHz Celeron is running timeless Tinkers, so unfortunately I have no other reports.

And the suspense continues..... thanks for the update ProviaFan

I'll see if I can find a link to an updated points file....

I'm not sure how to take that statement. Has everyone gotten a few of these already, and I'm just behind the times? 😉
Just meant that I've never seen or heard about these WUs, but then again all of my crunchers have been on 600 point units for the past month or so.
