Folding @ Home has released a new series of Work Units (57xx)

These WUs are dealing with longer simulations of larger models. As a result, GPUs are tasked more and all but the newest cards will show some PPD decrease. It's OK. We're finally doing some of what we're here to do.

The NVidia clients have been disproportionately scored for some time now. We all felt like we found the golden goose. These new WUs do indeed help reduce the gap between ATI and NV client scoring. That's a good thing....

So you're clent is not broken and no one is 'getting screwed'. It's just the progression of science we've all been looking for from this new client.

Quad GPU?? awesome! (what kind of PSU do you need for that!??).

Err anyway, good that the scoring is becoming more balanced :).

Really odd...I have 2 identical cards, one at 3500 and one at 4500 ppd, identical cards, both 57xx.

I think I figures it out... The 511 point units are getting 3500-3600 ppd, and the 384 point units are getting 4300-4500 ppd.

There are two sizes of protiens being studied in the 57xx series. One has 973 atoms, the other has 1392.

You will see the bigger one take your PPD down even lower than the smaller one.

You have to get out of the house more Mark.

Why can't the old X850XT fold.....I swear the X850XT is more or less the same as a 9500GT in terms of folding performance...

About the new 57XX WU. The 511 points one do take longer to finish, and work the shaders harder as well.

Question: Sometimes, I finish a WU, and I get one that starts at 40%. Is this normal?

I don't think so. I've seen it here too. Please find my thread at the fah fourms and report this. They are blowing it off.

Here's the thread

He doesn't know much about the project because he hasn't 'got out of the house' and looked around.

Too busy babysitting the 8 (soon to be 9) boxes with 20 different clients in the house that are getting points, to go do much "investigating" elsewhere.

But I am taking the quads out this weekend...(pic to be attached soon)

These are my quads, but my son is the one in the picture...

Hah I should've expected that you meant something else by 'quads'. Nice rigs - do you take those out to Browns Camp or some place like that?

I don't know the 9500GT but I do know the X850XT & I remember F@Hs comments about running the GPU client on that, basically they said that it was nowhere near fast enough, the minimium worthwhile (back then) being the X1950 Pro (which is about double the speed of the X850/800XT, & yea I know the 850XT is about 5% faster than the 800XT ;)).

The X19xx GPU client support was dropped earlier this year as they reckon it's too slow for the new client/WUs.

My HD 4830 (GPU o/ced to 625 MHz) currently has a 5740 WU (384 points) & showing 2476 ppd. (opps no it isn't that score is with the core back to default of 575 MHz, darn!, resetting to 625 MHz).
[edit] 1hr latter now & with the same WU I'm getting 2654 ppd. Roughly inline with the 9% increase in clock speed.

How do you find out the atomic size of the protiens being simulated?

Thanks for that :) ,& cool how that you can find out what each WU type is about too .

I want more!!!
