F@H Big WU and XP2500

I have an XP2500(Barton OC'ed to 3200+), XP2500(Barton not OC'ed) as well as an XP2600. They all have 256MB RAM running WinXP. They are all dedicated crunchers running F@H Version 5.02. I have noticed that they haven't crunched Big WU's in a long time. When I set them up, I answered the question regarding 5M units affirmatively and was wondering if it was because there are a minimum memory requirement to do so. Can I force them to get Big WU's? If I can, is it worthwhile to do so?

Thanks in advance for any input,
Martin

You won't get the big WU's just by checking the box, you have to the add the -advmethods flag. click START-->ALL PROGRAMS-->Folding@Home. Then highlight and right click on Folding@home 5.02 and select properties. the target line should read like this.

"C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\winFAH.exe" -advmethods

When you say dedicated cruchers I really hope you mean they do absolutely nothing else because with only 256mb, they won't have enough ram to do anything else. I have used a p4 2.0ghz with 256mb as a big WU cruncher before so it will work as long as that's all it does.

That is EXACTLY what I mean, JeffCos. I just didn't know if it was even possible to get them without a minimum RAM.
I'll give it a try, thanks for all your help.

5.02 executable is named FAH502-Console.exe

I don't think, at the moment, that -advmethods flag will help to get BigWUs.

A few weeks ago you didn't need a flag, just yes to BigWU.

Things change.

Probably soon, advmethods will help get BigWUs again 🙂

The minimum ram is or had been 256MB for regular BigWUs.

Minimum ram for the new QMD core WUs is still 512MB I think.
