Is Alma trying to kill the player or help him? If she is trying to kill him, why is she?

Well, Alma is the protagonist's and Fettle's mother...

She's mad that they stole her baby, but she's also mad in general so she likes to torment everyone.
She kinda sorta helps you towards the end, but then decides to jack you up anyway.

She tries to kill you for a while at the end, but you'll notice that right before the spectral attacks finally end in the finale, Alma says "I know you...".

In short, Alma is bats...er...guano insane, and even when you're a powerful psychic, recognizing your kid, who was taken from you at birth, 20 years later, ain't easy even when you ain't a flipping lunatic.

I recall a debate about Alma being aware of who you are half way through the game, inside one of the office buildings. She says something like "I know who you are", but that was a while ago and I don't remember the details but someone else might.
