There are many good upcoming games this fall and i have made my decision to purchase between the 2 top on my list, F.E.A.R and Age of Empires 3. However, i would like to narrow it down to one(if possible). I thought about quake 4 but it looks too much like doom 3 graphics wise and i know the multiplayer will be better but it still doesnt appeal to me. My reasons for F.E.A.R is that it is an innovative fps game that would probably freak the sh*t outta me and the major plus is that it looks beautiful. AOE has always been one of my favorite strategy games besides starcraft. This new one looks sorta the same tho but with amped up graphics and probably more missions and civilizations to choose from. Well isnt that what all sequels are? Anyways both look like very promising games. I want to purchase one upon release of both 10/18/05 and wait for reviews on other games coming out around then. Can someone please help me choose?

P.S- multiplayer is very important to me which do you think will have the best?

bah, FEAR runs like sh1t for it's looks (as has been said hl2 looks almost as good, only @a billionty higher fps), so unless they optimise it something amazing before it's release...AOE for me ;)

besides AOE will have awesome replay/online value, wheras i can't see FEAR replacing CS:S...

Both, but if I had to pick I'd buy FEAR. I will wait to see a review or two first though.

Good question. They both ship on the same day, so it's a tough one. FEAR looks to be fairly freaky in nature, and could be a good game throughout. However, with AOE3, if I'm thinking correctly, those types of games provide hours upon hours of single player experience.

If multiplayer is important to you, someone will have to report on the multiplayer of past AOE games, if there even was any. Initial impressions from the FEAR multiplayer beta was that it wasn't anything to write home about, but it was just a beta.

I've loved the AOE titles so I voted that way. Knowing me though I'll proably buy both.

I think based on the Age of Empires pedigree, I would have no qualms about purchasing the latest AOE sequel. It looks fun, involving and...well, colorful. ;)

By contrast, FEAR is a relatively new entry into the world of FPS's, and there's been tons of back and forth commentary on how well the game will run on current hardware. Not to say that AOE III's requirements won't be healthy as well, but i've already been burned by Doom 3, and don't want to buy another game that will scare me more b/c of it's choppy frame rate than it's monsters. *grin*

AoE3 for the online play.

Online since Enemy Territory just hasn't been the same for me as far as FPS games go. ;) And I haven't played that one in a long time.

There's always a new FPS out, but RTS's are less common. RTS's also have much more replay value than most FPSs.

AoE 3 for the win!

ill be buying fear

runs perfect for me at 10x7 with 2xaa and 4xaf, max detail, no softy shadows. apparently the full game is getting further optimization and the slo mo thing is just too damn cool!
