The mulitplayer in FEAR was actually surprisingly fun. Won't take you away from CSS, BF2, or the likes but you'll notice they put some work into it. Very good for free now I'll be able to play with all my friends.
 
So, wait, I shelled out money for the game instead of pirating it for NOTHING?

Lol I bought this for 19.99 when it went down to 29.99.....used that $10 off coupon at BB. I certainly have gotten my money out if it. My bro however just bought it for 29.99 to play multiplayer..

Wait...do you have to have the FEAR single player in order to play the multiplayer or is the multiplayer completely free--no single player campaign purchase required?

Yes. You get the entire multiplayer for free. 🙂 I'm guessing they want to build a fanbase for the sequel.

anyone here think this free MP could be a good model for future games? that way the devs can focus on a killer SP game, and then release MP for free?

How'd you know? You don't what kind of CPU and ram he has, so can't really say for sure...

I was running it on a 6600GT when it first came out. Also had a S754 3000+ on a poopy mobo, 2x512mb in single channel with really loose timings, and on a 5400rpm hard drive (no idea why I had it)
