Ok, this has never happened to me until today. I bought F.E.A.R.(the 5 cd version) and tried to install it. I installed disk one and it asked me for disk two. I put in disk two and it installs it for a little bit and something pops up and says "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check". So basically, the game wont install. What does that mean? It cant be my PC cause I just installed Quake 4 on it perfectly. I thought it was the F.E.A.R. cd but it wasent, cause I installed it on my lappy, what is the problem here? PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I have got these while installing XP before, using a different CD-ROM drive always did the trick.

That did do the trick, thanks a lot, but does that mean my other drive is going bad? I hope not, thats my dvd burner!

Drive might need the lens cleaned. Try a lens cleaner. It might also be that the drive is a bit finicky and doesn't like the copy protection on the CD.

Or the drive might be going bad.

I know this is old but I am getting the same error. Has any one gotten the error? I went to the Sierra web site and did the tech support thing and followed there recommand steps and nogo. When copying the files from the cd 2 it gave my the same error? I have two internal drivers and two external driver that i tried and it gave me the same error in all four drivers.

I looked around on google and there has been people with the same problme and had to return it for the DVD version....

I am just wondering if any one had this same problem.

could be copy protection related.

You can try removing CD burning software, removing the drive and letting device manager redetect it.

I good shot in the drive with compressed air and a soft tissue for the disk might do the trick too :)

I removed Nero and Roxio, but nogo. The disk is clean and all the four drives are clean. I am going to take it back to the store and replace it with any FEAR.

I returned the game at Best Buy for another FEAR game and it works and I love the game so far. It is pretty scary in its own way but the online (multi) maps are to small.
