F.E.A.R. detects computer as medium

Should I override the system and force it to set my computer as high or maximum? The X2 3800+ is pretty fast afaik. Should I leave it on medium? Thanks.
edit: Video presets to high. I run it at 16X12 with 2xaa with everything but soft shadows on.

as long as you have at least 1gb memory and a 6800GT or better(maybe even a GS) yeah turn most everything up other than soft shadow and FSAA/AF. Anything lower then them you need to keep medium.

It can, frame rates are playable, but I don't know if my frame rates could be higher. It slows down sometimes during really heavy gunfire scenes, which is obvious.

Hmm... you should be able to run max no soft shadows at a pretty steady fps...
It's not going to be completely stable, it may hit ~25 during huge fights.
Check your drivers, make sure they're the ones you want.
I'm not sure about the 7900GT... Nvidia's kinda random about what drivers they're cards use.
