First off... this demo is amazing and I want to buy the game, but...

It seems like it stutters for no apparent reason... I have an x800xl oc'd to 425/545 and the game has auto detected my settings to run at Maximum on 1024x768. I realize that may have been too much so I toned it down to medium settings... but I'm still getting the delays and I can't understand why. I'm running an x2 3800 at 2450 and all my temps are well within reason. My main question is:

Is this a bug with the demo that other people are experiencing too??? What gives... Is my x800xl able to handle this game or not? I wanna buy the game but I wanna get this resolved first.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problems with the Demo (6800 GT) , I get a lot of pausing when moving to new areas and its pretty frequent, I was just told the game uses an insane amount of texture memory and the only way to reduce it is to either turn down the texture detail or buy more system memory, I have another 1GB ram on the way (ill have 2GB total) so we'll see how it goes, I havent tried turning down texture detail yet. I also heard turning off Soft Shadows gives a decent boost in framerate.

I get the occasional hitch with my 6600GT (570/1.145), 1024 maximum settings, no soft shadows, no AA/4xAF in the MP demo.

Not enough to annoy me but enough to be noticeable...

My system has 2 gig of ram. The only way to get rid of it is to turn the settings down. (Venice 3000, X800 256mb)

I know exactly what you are talking about, you are about to turn a corner and it will pause. Very annoying. Detracts from the atmosphere.

2GB of RAM helps. But believe it or not, it still does it although not as much.

Hopefully the Retail version eliminates this problem.

the game isn't preloading the data soon enough, so when you go around a corner, you have to wait for the harddrive to load the data. Upgrading from 1gb to 2gb of ram helped to a large extent for me, that plus the load times went soo much faster.

WOW, I am glad to hear that I'm not the only one having this problem...

and it's funny that I haven't really heard anybody talk about it until now, all I have been hearing is how great the game is... but I find the problem very distracting and irritating, and would hope that it's fixed in the retail version. You would think that this would be a factor needed to make a good game great.

I guess I'll just wait to see if it's corrected before I buy, or just get Quake 4 first:)

I played the demo once. The stuttering was driving me crazy. It could have been the drivers. Since then i've updated to 81.82's. I"ll try a little bit later.

The retail version is suppose to play better than the demo. BF2 took a few patches before it performed well.

I won't buy either Fear or BF2 until they are in the bargain bin, so they should be nice and patched by then.

Yeah, it stutters for me too. Very fun game, looking forward to retail, but the stuttering is annoying. I've got a gig of RAM, but I think I checked RAM usage and it was under 500MB. It appears to be a flaw in the coding - it doesn't preload the data fast enough.

Funny that games like Metroid Prime 1 and 2 can use preloading to get a stutter-free experience on the Gamecube, with a fraction of the RAM and processing power, yet this one has this annoying problem...

I would say I get next to no studdering on my system, I have 1.5 gig -o- ram. I run everything maxed no AA

Couldnt find any stuttering in the demo here, most options set to maximum, 4xAA and 8xAF at 1024x768 and 2GB RAM.

Taxing on my patience, maybe. It's taxing because it's coded badly, not because it looks good - why should a game which looks like Doom 3, maybe not as good, not even be able to run properly on the fastest available hardware?

The demo definitely has some coding problems. There were a few threads about this when the demo came out. Adding more ram doesn't solve the problem. If this isn't fixed in the final version, I'm not even going to play it. I actually got the same performance with a 9800 Pro that I get with a X800 XT PE - both stutter at 800 * 600 medium details. the XT allowed me to crank it to 1024 (woohoo!!) but I couldn't enable even high graphical details without the game slowing to unplayable. Definitely not acceptable. Granted I don't have the fastest proc but I left the "system" settings on medium, and couldn't even crank the graphical settings. It's not just a taxing game - it's coded badly.

yup 2GB of memory almost completely removed my stutters.

i can run the single player demo completely maxed out (except the highest resolution is only 1154x864 for some reason). The multiplayer demo i have to turn some settings down though.

I run it 1024x768 on medium, with about 2 low settings and I get an average of 30 frames on my Sapphire 9600 ATLANTIS. Pretty happy with what it can do actually....:D

I used the same post for two threads hope that?s ok :) hehe

Well playing F.E.A.R at 1920x1200 Everything on Maximum .. /With No AA or FA

Runs fine ( 35-60FPS ) on a Athlon X2 3800+ 2GB Ram CL 2.5, Gainward Geforce 6800GT "AGP" @t Ultra speeds 400/1100

And yes I?m running a socet 939 CPU on an AGP 939 ALI ASrock Micro ATX Motherboard

Who needs PCI-E and a Full sized PC .... yuck!

No Stuttering .. the only time it glitch's is when it AutoSaves ...

Ive been Tweaking PC's for 10 years now and you would be surprised how keeping a nice and clean Install of XP helps performance with latest MB Chipset drivers and Videocard drivers I would say even more then Overclocking. Noobs get Pawned with slowdown :p:p hehe .... haha .. funny thing is my friend also doesnt get those glitch's and his using a geforce 4 Ti4200 with a Athlon64 3200+ 939 "AGP" Nforce3 1GB ram. But he also is a long time Gaming PC user like me.
