Supposedly, Monolith was unhappy with the console ports and expansions to the original F.E.A.R. done by another dev house and F.E.A.R. 2 is supposed to be much better. We'll see...

I grabbed this last night. The demo looks interesting. I'm a fan of games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc -- the first level in the demo kind of reminded me of Silent Hill in a way. It takes quite a few shots to down enemies, though. I am hoping they don't over-use the slow-motion mechanic (think Max Payne).

I played a little bit of the demo this afternoon, and after being freaked out a bit, I realized it would be much better at night, so I turned it off. Looking forward to playing through the demo in the dark.

Yea and now the PC version feels like a port

I played both versions and overall I found it a slightly better experience on the PC than the 360 mainly because I still prefer mouse/keyboard over controllers for shooters. Although, it does feel a little bit more like a console game now, especially the last part of the demo which is super "controller friendly".

Yes, definitely play it at night. I did and it was creepy as hell. I finished the demo and loved it. I look forward to getting the full game when it comes out. But I also loved the first FEAR, and this one is pretty much a continuation of the first.

LOL you never played the first one did you? I haven't played the demo for the new one yet, but if it follows the first one then slo-mo is totally under your control. If you think the slo-mo is overused then it's your own damn fault. Actually it was under your control in Max Payne too so I hope you don't think it was bad there either, as THAT would be your fault too.

It's still under your control in FEAR 2 as well.

Just played through it and loved it. IMO Monolith are the best all-around FPS developer - they've developed several really inventive FPS franchises, and their games are always fun to play. I'm psyched they're returning to the mech gameplay element - SHOGO was always one of my favorite underappreciated games of all time.

I loved it too.

It feels right on for a Monolith game, and when I first shot someone and saw all the blood I was like, yup, Monolith game. 🙂

No, I have never played the first one except for the multiplayer demo on PC. When I said 'overused', they made it a much too integral part of the game.

I was simply voicing my opinion and observations.

It was better than I thought, because towards the very beginning I was worried, when I found myself in what appeared to be an office building....

I just hope there's a little more variety now.

I thought they werent able to actually name it fear bewcause of copyright stuff...what changed?

I've got it downloaded, but haven't tried it yet. I thought the first FEAR was highly overrated, so I'm not sure what to expect out of this one. I couldn't even be bothered to finish the first game. I got bored half way through the game.

I know, I'm just saying that you can't really complain about something that YOU control. Yes its designed to be used, but you can get through the game without ever using it.

Slo-mo was very necessary in FEAR 1 the first time through. The enemies were very capable of putting you down fast. After going through FEAR multiplayer for a few hours tho, it becomes an optional accessory. You completely get the hang of putting down foe after foe with a combination of headshots, nades, and melee.

I was a little bummed that I picked up the laser from that mobile armor guy and never had a chance to use it before assuming my own mobile armor. I gather it lights enemies on fire?
