Switched to Fios TV from Dish Network. Called Dish to cancel today. I have an 18 month contract, got the paper work right in front of me. Signed up on 8-31-08, so assuming I can count it ends at the end of February 2010. Says early termination charges are $13.33 for each month left on the contract. No big deal.

They are telling me I signed a 24 month contract so I owe $10/mo for 10 more months. Fuckers. They said they will have to request a copy of the contract from the local office to verify it which will take 7-10 days. And, if they don't have the contract *I* get charged $99. Fuckers. If they try to charge me anything I am going to dispute it with my CC company.

One guy even tried telling me they don't do 18 month contracts. Asshole, you may not now but you sure as hell did then!

Did you order directly from Dish when you had it installed, or from a reseller? Sometimes they have you sign separate contracts with them which may be what you have in front of you. (Frankly, I've never heard of an 18 month contract w Dish Network either, but I obviously could be wrong about that).

Dish Network's CSR's are awful regardless though.

Don't use auto-pay. Then you don't have to worry about your account getting messed up.

Everyone knows this.

Yeah, I ordered over the phone directly with Dish. I remember that was the only way I could sign up because apparently when I got service with Verizon Wireless I got a recycled # of someone who must have had Dish network in the past, so as it was my only phone number I had to call to sign up since the website said I was a previous customer.

Here's a scan of the contract. Warning, it is over 2MB.

I should have asked the guy how long he had worked there and if he had internet access to google Dish Network 18 month contract.

These bastards charged me an ETF after they told me they wouldn't. They couldn't guarantee HD service at my new residence, so they canceled my contract without an ETF, then billed me it anyway.

I had it in writing, so I told them to pound sand. They sent me to a collection agency, whom then got a faxed copy of said "no ETF" and a full C&D.
