F-Audio slot on Motherboard

I have a gigabyte p35 ds3l mobo and a cooler master centurion case. The mobo comes with HD audio by default and is working well. I have a cable in my case called f audio that fits perfectly into a matched header on the mobo labelled f audio. With my audio seemingly working well without this connection, is there any benefit to connecting the cable? Thanks for any help

it will allow you to use the mic and headphone jacks on the front/top of the case
