Ahh,

Just got to see these birds in real life. My friend is a technician in the Air Force (Finnish Air Force that is). I visited him yesterday, and he asked if I would like to see the planes... WOULD!!! Too bad you cannot take pictures there, as it is a military area... And sitting in the cocpit, the simulators don't come even CLOSE to what it must be like in real life. Now I only wish I could get on flight with one of those!

The Finnish version is the F/A-18 C/D. Finland was the first customer to have the new AGP-73 radar system, insteadt of the std. AGP-65. AGP-73 is std. for the new Super Hornets.

I promised pics, so here are some cool pics:

Hey man, you blocking the whole road!
I think it's ok to park here...
Follow me.
Clouds, what you mean clouds?
Sleek
Hey, watch where you flying!
U can't see me.

I see that the Finnish Air Force can use roads as airfields.

Yup,

The reason we went the F/A-18 route was the possibilty to operate from small road strips. All planes have the landing hooks (same as US Navy) to allow for short landings.

Here's a pic of Hornet landing to a road using the hook.
Phew... it stopped.
