ez upgrade? possible?

basically i have a really crappy 433mhz celeron emachine that i've been using for 2 years. finally im getting an upgrade. i have an atx case 300watt psu, and an Athlon 1700 ,Epox 8kha+, 128MB of DDR ram coming my way....

question is: will i be able to use my current hard drive, cdrw, cdrom, and floppy drive with my new processor/ram/board/case without any problems (such as having to reformat my hard drives and such) and therefore make this an extremely simple instalation?

You will absolutely have reinstall the OS. You don't need to format it if you delete \Windows, \Program Files, as well as a couple of files in the root directory. This way, you get a clean install and don't need to make a backup to a separate drive.

But you need to reinstall Windows because you are adding a lot of new hardware.
By the way, using 128 MB with a CPU of that speed is not a good idea (sorry), because Windows will start choking very quickly. 256 MB is pretty much a must, and 384-512 MB will really let you enjoy your new system.

You can use any old drives with your new system. I assume you are keeping your videocard as well, which will severly cripple gaming at any resolution (because it is probably 2 years old, like the rest of your hardware). You should get a GeForce2 Pro or a GeForce2/3 Ti to get better results.

bummer, i was hoping i could get away with it. files in \Program files are the only ones that i'm even concerned about keeping. it's times like these im glad i use a 2nd drive for storage :/

oh i agree with you 100%, but all i can afford at the moment is 128MB of DDR. next week i will buy 256...just a temporary solution to get me off of this god awful celeron.
