Anyone ever heard of this? Google hasn't and I have a client that's getting an error on bootup (windows XP) saying this failed to start.

Otherwise the PC runs fine. Any ideas?

Sounds like a virus or malware...

Client needs to run an AV and Malwarebytes stat.

MWB finds nothing as well as AVG AV. That's why I'm writing here .... and the computer shows none of the normal slowdown or other issues normally associated w/Malware.

If it's not malware, you probably uninstalled something, but it failed to remove a reference to some background driver in that dll. Some external uninstaller/registry cleaner would probably finish the job. You might also check your INI files (win.ini and system.ini) for references to that dll; it might be safe to carefully remove them.

Sounds like a volcano 😛

Anyway, try msconfig and see if there's something strange in your system files or startup sequence.

Do a registry search for just the name without the extension and see what it finds. The last part of the name hup is a known virus.

Possibly one of the AV apps worked and removed the file but not the pointer to it, that's why the AVs don't find it now and why Windows thinks it's missing?
