Got my new monitor today, running desktop at 1280x1024 85hz. Used to be on 1024x768 85hz. For some reason my eye's are hurting now, is it because my eye's aren't used to such a small screen or is that just normal for 1280?

don't think it is normal for any monitor for your eyes to be hurting, what kind of monitor is it?

you'll probably never get used to it. i've used 1280x1024 since 2001, and i still have occasional eye strain after a few hours. hell, even on my new LCD playing UT04 for a couple of hours makes my eyes tired.

never had a head ache tho... you might wanna go get that checked up.

Maybe its cuz you have to read smaller fonts? Try pumping up the fonts in IE and other programs and see if it helps?

Use 1280 x 960 and make sure you are running at 85 Hz (i.e. check your OSD).

god I feel lucky that I don't have an issue with my 19 at 1600x1200 but I'm still young so my eyesight will proubly drop at some point

1. Try a higher refresh rate.
2. Try lowering the color temp to 6550K, instead of 9300K. Initially everything will look a tad reddish, but you'll get used to it in a few days. 9300K strains my eyes, whereas the warmer 6550K doesn't.
3. What video card are you using?

Hmmm I use 2048x1536 with my 21".... no eye strain whatsoever...
Try increasing the dpi setting in display properties, then advanced.
I use large fonts to compensate for the large resolution.

Wow, what kind of video card do you have? Quadro, Fire GL or Matrox?

what's so amazing about it?

That you could look at such a blurry display. ;)

Consumer cards aren't made to drive large monitors at extremely high resolutions. If you compare your monitor at it's current setting to 1600x1200, you'll see that the 1600x1200 is much sharper and clearer.

Just some friendly advice. There was a guy here who went through a ton of video cards looking for one capable of not being blurry @ some high resolution like yours. He ended up with a Matrox I believe.

There actually was a 15" LCD with a 1600X1200 resolution, or are you just jerking our chains?

My 19" LCD only runs at 1280X1024, and that's small enough for me!

Sounds like a laptop to me. WSXUGA or some other combination of weird letters. But you can get 15 inch screens with that resolution on laptops.

Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop, it's a 15" UXGA (1600x1200) screen.

And DarkKnight, no, I don't use a magnifying glass, I can read everything perfectly fine from about 2ft away.
