Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Just got done with my first year of college and now I can put a little bit of money towards something a bit more awesome. :awe:

I currently have an MSI Twin Frozr II 5850 that I'm looking to get rid of and upgrade.

My current monitors are:
1. 27" Asus LED.
2. Dell 20"
3. Dell 20"
4. Samsung 20"

Now comes the decision.

I can either:
1. Sell the 3 20" monitors and my 5850 and put it towards a 570/580 along with a 24" 3D Monitor and have my 27" on the side.

or

2. Sell the 3 20" monitors and my 5850 and put it towards a 6950/6970 along with 2 more of the Asus 27" panels to have an epic eyefinity setup.

I've done eyefinity with my 3 20" monitors before and loved it. I just hated that when I was done gaming, I had to do everything else on a tiny 20" monitor.

Anyways, all suggestions and opinions are welcome. Thank you, my kind fellows.

2nd option: 7 votes
1st option: 0 votes
Neither and get a 30" IPS panel: 2 votes.

Thank you, Mr. blastingcap =)

3D has it's place too... When the game doesn't support eyefinity=p

But Nvidia does Eyefinity(Surround) too, they advertise it as "3D Surround" for some stupid reason. Just takes SLI.

Based on your situation, I would vote (2), but keep an eye out for a 27" 3D panel for the center to give you both a 2D eyefinity or 3D center panel option for every game.

I was in a similar upgrade path. I snagged a 27" 3D panel first (HN274H) and will probably go for two 27" 2D panels in the near future for the 2D surround option. I would like 3D on all three panels, but that is very expensive and power-hungry (including an upgrade to at least 3 GPU(s) required to run 5760x3240 in 3D without an uncomfortable framerate hit).

I've thought about this as well. If I can find a really cheap 3d 27" open box or something I may buy it.

Oh and Eyefinity would only be 5760x1080 unless you're doing a 3x3 array. :p

I would take multi-monitor gaming in a heart beat. If you ask me, it is far more immersive than a single monitor with 3D.

3D is a fad that needs to die. I hate it when the movie theater only has 3D versions of movies out.. I don't want to wear goofy glasses to experience it. That's so 1960's.

Eyefinity and 3D gaming are two completely different gaming conditions. You shouldn't need other people to tell you what to pick.

Although, I will say there is no better immersion than a properly set up 3D gaming rig. Once you feel you're inside the game in 3D, you could have a giant wall of screens in 2D and it would never give you the same feeling of immersion.

I don't NEED to be told which route to take. I'm simply gathering the opinions of others to see what they would do in my particular situation.

I just don't see how a single 24" screen in 3d could be as immersive as 81" of real estate surrounding you.

Eyefinity gives you peripheral vision while 3D makes the screen in front of you more immersive. They both work pretty well imo.

You can have 3D with AMD cards on a 60Hz monitor or TV only it has to have HDMI 1.4.
http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-hd3d/pages/supported-hardware.aspx

Soon all the displays will have HDMI 1.4, it's the new standard.

If I were to go 3D, I would go with Nvidia, as they are far ahead of AMD as far as that standard goes. AMD forces you to use third party software that doesn't work nearly as well.

Since I can't afford three 3d monitors or the graphics power to run that, that option wouldn't be very practical.

Interesting how different people perceive things. I think it's nVidia who forces you to use their tech. AMD uses the already established standards. Lets you choose which company's solution to buy. Open competition in the marketplace for your dollar.

Just be patient. As soon as the pr0n industry adopts 3D, everyone will have it. D:

nVidia does force you to use their tech, but at least it works well.

AMD just needs to take a bit more initiative to make sure than the "established standards" are more up to par.

As for the 2nd statement. I agree entirely. :sneaky:
