Eyefinity advice

hola

I have a U2410 with me that I currently use with my laptop. Decided to go the desktop route, so I WANT more monitors now woohoooooooo

Need advice on layout. I've used a 2007WFP in portrait with a 24" in landscape before and obviously it doesn't match size or resolution wise. Although it was very productive.

Should I get the 2007fp's? and run a (1600x2 + 1920) x 1200?

I don't like the idea of 2 U2410, coz I want a more surround feel to the layout. And I don't really like moving my neck tooo much lol

Current Eyefinity does not support different resolutions (you would need all 1920x1200, or all 1600x1200). I expect this to change with the next release, but it is no guarantee that AMD will support different resolutions by the time you buy the monitors.

Is this for productivity or gaming?

For productivity/work, you should have no problem driving 3 monitors with different resolutions.

It's more for productivity, with a little gaming on the side.

But when I do game I want to do it right 😉
I could make do with gaming just on the main panel, thats not a big deal imho.

Doesn't Eyefinity mean full-screen 3D apps spanning across more than one monitor (currently limited to same resolution)?

I don't consider multi-monitor productivity as Eyefinity.

There are software solutions but in my mind best setups are those that match in pixel size s 30" + 2 20" in portrait mode or 24" + 2 21.3". Could never find decent cheap 21.3" cuz they were all older (slow response time), professional grade panels.

I dont 🙁

Unless you have some juicy rumours? 😕

A few posters seem a little confused. There are *two* versions of 3-panel Eyefinity: (1) Productivity and (2) gaming.

For productivity, you can mix and match panels, orientation, panel size and resolutions.

For gaming, each of the 3 panels MUST be the same orientation and same resolution (and the same size to match and to use the bezel management).

So let me get this straight.... I've got a 24" dell at 1920x1200 and a 22" Samsung 1680x1050. If i were to add another 22" samsung, I wouldn't be able to run fullscreen eyefinity over the three monitors for something like WoW?

Would a setup like this be possible?

|1680x1050| |1920x1200| |1680x1050|

And since the 3 monitors would be different brands, would it be incompatible for bezel management?

I've already got 2 monitors and 2x5870 in my machine. I just thought that throwing one more monitor in my setup would be ideal for eyefinity, but I didn't know it was so finicky.

In Eyefinity (gaming mode) your example of mismatched monitors:
|1680x1050| |1920x1200| |1680x1050|
would look like this:
|1680x1050| |1680x1050| |1680x1050|

Doesn't matter the brand; they must be the same: (1) orientation, (2) resolution, and (3) size (to use bezel management)

thanks for the quick reply! Well i guess 3x1680x1050 is better than just a plain ol' 1920x1200.

Maybe I'll just pick up two more 1680x1050 monitors, and just give the 24" to my wife full time.

Thanks again!

Youre welcome, and i'd play around with the 1920x1200 LCD in the center (at 1680x1050) flanked by your two 1680x1050 LCDs just to see if you like Eyefinity or not. It is pretty good for racing games even with smaller LCDs on the periphery.

Finally .. think ahead .. get two more 1920x1200 displays for yourself and give your wife the 22"er.
😀

ALSO, you will need to get an single link active DVI to DP adaptor ($30) if you do not have DisplayPort on one of your LCDs. You cannot use DVI or VGA for more than two of your connections - even if your have CrossFire.

thanks for the input. I've decided to be a little cheap, and save up for an SSD.
So I'm just gonna get 2 1708fp's for 50ish each and I'll flank my main monitor with them in portrait mode. Hopefully I can get eyefinity running!

I'll update in this thread!

Be careful. All three displays must share the same orientation for HD 5000 series(in Eyefinity gaming). You cannot mix portrait with landscape except for Eyefinity productivity.

Would this work? The resolutions wouldn't match would they?

Yes, It *will* work, technically speaking. If monitors in Eyefinity setup are of different resolutions, you can only play at the highest common native resolution.

For example,

Consider you have 2 monitors @ 1080P and a third one with a resolution of 1920 X 1200 in a Eyefinity setup, you can still play games spanning all the three monitors, but only at (3*1920) X 1080 resolution.

There are a lot of issues with this setup as apoppin already pointed out.

I'm using 3x LP2475W, basically the same thing as 3x U2410. Can't even imagine going back to a single display. HD6xxx will be nice for my setup since I should be able to daisy chain all three displays from 1 displayport out. My plan is to eventually have a 42-52" inch HDTV wall mounted above my eyefinity array for TV/movies
