Here's the skinny...
I'm 21. I just moved out of my parents house. I'm paying for my own education and supporting myself. I really want to get an eyebrow pierced. I've wanted this for a long time but have been unable to do it because I lived with my parents.
I'm currently unemployed and looking for a job. I dont want a job with a lot of responsibility right now -No supervisory positions. I only want something that I can work 20-25 hrs/week to supplement my savings that I'm using for school.

Now, If I get a piercing, I'm worried that it may effect my ability to get a job.
Does anyone foresee any problems here?
How long does aftercare usually take?
Would taking Antibiotics speed the process or reduce odds of infection?

Does anyone have any other useful input?

thanks

it depends on where you're working. anywhere you have to deal with customters usually means no-no for piercings.

Well, I can always take it out when I'm ready for a *real* job. (after college)

Well I got a nose ring back in the day, and it did'nt hinder me getting any jobs. It was just a little tiny stud though...so it was'nt too offensive.

As for your eyebrow...personally I don't like the look of that, but that's only me! :) If you've waited this long...why don't you get a job first and then go get it done after.

as others have said, depends on workplace. Because of what I do at school and my future profession (law enforcement) I cannot get any. Your choices will probably be different.

Make sure if you are going to get it, that it looks good on you. I have seen very few people that actually look good with an eyebrow piercing, we don't need to add one more to the batch.

As for jobs, wait for it to heal properly, take it out for the interview, use a clear plastic replacement or a thick fishing line.

In my Business class we had a high level manager from Cox Communications come in to speak. Cox is a very large cable tv/broadband provider. She said that at any one time she has a stack a foot high of resumes to review, so her pool is large.

One day she was introduced to a new worker. The conversation went something like this:

Person: Hey Jane (the lady in question), meet our newest employee Jack.
Jack: Pleased to meet you ma'am.
Jane: Jack. Eyebrow Piercing.....Job. (Showing scales with hands). You choose.

Next day Jack had a bandaid over his eyebrow.

Correction: You could get one now, and just take it out when you eventually get a job/go to work....

I'm in my upper 30's, like many hiring managers. I wouldn't use it to disqualify you for a job, but if there was another applicant who had about the same qualifications as you but without a visible piercing, I'd go with the other applicant.

I really don't see what it buys you. Cool factor among your friends and those younger than you?

I had a piercing in college but took it out the day after graduation.

I liked it, but its not worth the possible missed opportunities. You just never know the feelings of the interviewer.

Is it worth it to you? I would hope not.
