Eye started watering uncontrollably...

The strangest thing happened last night.

I was driving home on the freeway around midnight (from Hollywood to Santa Monica), not excessively tired or fatigued...

And all of a sudden, my eyes started aching and watering uncontrollably. It got to the point where I had to close one because it hurt so much and drive with the other, and then switch because the other started hurting so badly.

Tears were streaming down my face, and my eyes were seriously BURNING... the sensation seemed to come out of nowhere. I wasn't sad or upset or anything, and the tearing was so bad I had to pull over, wipe my eyes, and close them for about fifteen minutes before I could drive again. They kept tearing the rest of the way home, and hurt until I went to bed.

I woke up fine this morning, but last night scared me. I hope it isn't because I've been spending too much time in front of a computer screen... that was the first time it's ever happened, and I have no idea why.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or do you have any idea what may have triggered that?

If you're allergy-free and want to feel what it's like to suffer from them, I highly recommend spending a week here! 😀

Some pollen got in your eye? Have you had allergies before?

Maybe it was the chemicals from a jet's chemtrail! :Q   😀

I'll bet its an alergy, rather than exposure to some toxic chemical. I also live in Santa Monica and have been getting more frequent sinus and ear infections - the doctor thinks it's an alergic reaction. He put me on Alegra and some antihystamine nose spray and POOF no more sinus and ear infections. !!!!

i get that once in a while from wearing contacts. it's almost as bad as touching your eyes after chopping up jalapenos 🙂

Interesting... the only allergy I suffer from is a serious allergy to cats, but I wasn't in contact with any cats that night.

It was pretty strange because it happened so suddenly/out of nowhere. 😕 I hope it doesn't start occuring regularly... 🙁

Were you listening to Yani on the radio?

Seriously, if they started watering like that it was from some sort of irritant, who knows what though. Watering a bit is normal for some reasons, but not the way you described it.

I've had it happen after sitting in front of a computer for extended periods, but when it happens to me, my eyes start watering immediately after I walk away from the screen. I guess I don't blink when I'm playing FPS's or something.

May you passed over some roadkill and the fur dander was similar to a cat's that your eyes reacted the same way.

Since you're allergic to cats that means you can get allergic reactions to a few other things...

this happens to my quite frequently. its usally a sign of fatique. do they water and then sting horribley? sometimes i must pull over to let it subside due to loss of vision.

edit: mostly happens when i drive or concentrating on something.

I have had the same thing happen to me. One time was in an airplane reading a book, all the others have been driving in a car for a few hours. Happens quite often to me...🙁 Burns like a biznatch. Almost wrecked a few times b/c I couldn't see.

one time i was in a plane, and the pressure was literally making my eye bulge. we were descending and my eye started pulsating...i thought it was going to explode and i would be blind.

Its normal, happens from time to time. Usually after a long day....eyes may become irritated or dehydrated. You will notice most occur at night while driving or staring straight.
