update: got back from the ophthalmologist today. My eyes are fine. She said it was normal and not much can be done about it.

She also said I have 20/20 vision but my right eye is slightly worse than my left eye so that causes some tunnel vision problems when looking around normally. I could get glasses to fix the issue but it is not worthwhile since my eyes are almost perfect.

20/20 doesn't mean "perfect" - it merely refers to the typical ability to resolve a certain size of text at a distance of 20 feet. (I think it's a 1 minute arc.) However, you could be legally blind and have 20/20 vision. An example would be someone with severe tunnel vision - imagine that in your entire field of vision, you would be able to read entire words at once at a distance of 20 feet away, while someone else could barely make out one letter at a time.

Further, if 20/20 is perfect, then what's the word to describe people with 20/15 vision?

cerebusPu, I got a large floater in my field of vision due to head trauma. I'm going in for a consult to see if I can get is lasered. The procedure is called Laser Vitreolysis and is only performed by three ophthalmologists in the entire US AFAIK. Fortunately, I live 60 mi from one of them. If the Laser Vitreolysis does not work, I have already decided that I will opt for a vitrecotmy, despite the fact that it's a highly intrusive procedure.

My floater runs vertically the length of my eye and it is in my FOV.

Unfortunately, most ophthalmologist will tell you there is nothing that can be done. I was told the same thing. Then I did my research and called my ophthalmologist to ask him about Laser treatment or eye surgery. He says that they are options but none that he would perform...I told him that was a far cry from "no options."
