Am relatively new to the photography game but the Eye fi concept seems pretty neat. In fact, I ran across the below promo by Google's Picasa which offers the 4GB card and 200GB of storage for $50:

http://picasa.google.com/eyefi.html

Seems like a decent deal because the card alone goes for ~$60. Before I pull the trigger however, would like to know if anyone here uses the Eye fi card and what your impressions are?

Thanks.

The ONLY possible reason I can think of for using one of these is if you want to use your existing camera as a wireless security/surveillance camera. Otherwise, a USB cable is vastly superior in every way.

I liked the concept and its possibilites but as of now, they're so damn slow to the point it's useless.

Can't think of a single reason to use such a gimmick. ???

but it's always funny when someone steals a camera and takes a picture of themselves only to have the camera uploaded it to the owner's flickr.

a decent deal if you wanted one, and were planning planing on going w/ picasaweb anyway. but keep in mind that's $50/yr... granted, you probably can just cancel after the first year.. but it's not entirely clear from that promo page

oh, and I have to say it's pretty useless to me. the idea is great because I hate cables and hate having to pop the CF door all the time. But a) I have CF mostly and b) the speed really kills it IMO.

same thing people use twitpic for but higher quality and not as mobile. though if you turn your iphone into an AP it's always mobile.
