I need to buy a extrenal HD, with Firewire and USB interfaces.
I have 4 computers and i'm having trouble transferring files between them on CD's (lol).
I will need this only to put files on and store, to put on other computers.
It will be more like a Network drive, just not on a network, only me transfering it between each PC.

I thought about these two:

and

I won't need more then 120GB.
The lighted version is cheaper, and looks a bit cheap design and a bit "too lighted" to me. Do you know if those lights blink and drive you nuts?

I want something PLUG N PLAY, I plug, and windows sets it like a removable drive, I put files on it and remove it. That's it.

Are both of these external drives like this?

I have had this one for quite a while. I use it to backup 4 computers. I simply plug it in, do my backup, and that's it. I did NOT install the Maxtor software. One thing, Windows XP will not let you stop this USB device once you've accessed it. I got used to that because I don't leave these computers on all the time. FWIW

you can also get an HD enclosure from newegg. (search bytecc in newegg). then put in HD the size you want. These things are pulg and play as well, and probably cheaper. I have the USB2 version, works well.

I just bought two items from the Egg:

Kingwin's external 3.5" USB2.0 enclosure for $40.

250GB 8MB buffer 7200RPM WD 250MB HD for $140.

Tried it tonight copying BIG AVI files (each ~700MB) and it does it reasonably fast (under 1 minute per file). For $180 I got a pretty damn good 250GB external setup. :D
