Hi Everyone,

As the title reads, my M10 router is so slow!!!

I actually don't know if it's the router, or the modem provided my ISP. When I reset both modems, the speed is top notch, no issues. But as soon as I start using internet heavily (i.e. downloading games), for some reason, my internet speed goes down by a lot.

The pattern is that I get the normal speed for like 2 seconds, stops working for like 30 seconds, then comes back to life for 2 seconds. Cycle repeats. This is so annoying. I don't know why this is happening.

Any help/insight will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Download from where?

Using their client. It's a game called Aion, and it's not some small publisher. It's NCSoft who created Lineage also. So their server isn't an issue.

This isn't the only issue. I can't load YouTube properly. Let alone the fact that I'm kind of sluggish in responding to these posts.

If it's wired, it's OK, I think...

Sorry, but what does that have to do with anything? I don't understand.

Torrent tends to saturate your pipes, especially uplink. And since it is a vendor client, you don't get to set upload limit.

What is your internet service band with?

Download latest driver for wifi adapter from vendor to your PC.

Uninstall the old driver, reboot, install the new driver, reboot.

I've already done all that. In fact, I bought a brand new laptop. So I don't think my wifi drivers are an issue.

Teksavvy.

Is it DSL? If yes, check the cable to the wall.

And I don't know if AION download is torrent, if yes, I agree with sdifox that torrent kills the modem/router.

To mxnerd and sdifox:

No, their torrent has nothing to do with this. Why?

1) Because my entire internet usage is affected. I cannot even load YouTube.
2) If I download something else (say, Windows Update), it starts to lag also.
3) I've been using the same client for the longest time at another house with similar wifi setup. No issues, in fact, zero.

So this torrent has nothing to do with it. Even in game (with another computer that already has the program), I lag like crazy while I have no devices downloading anything.

So what's your service? DSL or cable and what's the speed you paid for?

So you can't even load youtube if you are not using anything else?

How long has it been like this?

Sorry, missed your question there.

It is cable internet. It has been like 3 months or so.

That's correct. Even last night, I was trying to watch YouTube, and it is clearly noticeable that the video quality keeps changing because of the internet instability.

And no, no one else is in the house to steal my bandwidth (checked using router admin page to see if neighbours are stealing, but no one is!).

This is so frustrating. I don't know why this stupid Cisco router does this.

Havr you tested with direct connection? As in network cable from modem to laptop. Also, when was the last time you checked for malware?

And do you have cable TV? Did you use signal splitter on the incoming connection? It will degrade the cable signal.
