Extremely slow DVD Burn speeds

I have had my NEC 2510a drive for a while now and it has always pissed me off that it burns so slow, every burn takes a minimum of 35 minutes. I figured it was the media but I got some other Ridata 4x's and it still takes 35 minutes.

I have no clue what the problem is. Can anyone shed some light on this situation

I've used Alcohol 120% as well as Nero to burn the files, nero and alcohol both report the discs are capable of 6x but for some reason always end up burning at ~1x.

Firmware: 2.16

thtsa odd I have the same drive and I'm loving it... maybe time for firmware upgrade

My 8x DVD+R discs take about 10-12 mins on same drive. Using Nero, and Imation discs.

The drive was stuck in PIO mode, 10 minute burns now with 4x media 😛
