In Chicago, temperatures Monday dipped to a low of 4 degrees, beating the old record of 6 degrees set in 1895, according to the National Weather Service.
In this time of supposed global warming, we are setting records for low temps...
The mercury dropped below zero before sunset in Casper, Wyo., and Gunnison, Colo., was bracing for another frigid night after a low of 24 below zero overnight Monday. Forecasts called for a low of minus 25 in the Colorado ski resort town of Steamboat Springs.

Pretty cold...

Repeat after me . . . global climate CHANGE . . . wetter, drier, colder, warmer. We aren't smart enough to know exactly what's going to happen. We are smart enough not to sit in a closed garage with the motor running.

I'm sure those people in the midwest and mountain west are happy their Congressional representatives voted against heating oil subsidies.

You have no idea how cold the recent winters have been, last week it was around ten below. Walking to class in the morning is a absolute biatch.

Got down to freezing here in LV.

And some donkey construction builder has their water truck wash down the road at 10PM.

Left some black ice and pools of ice this AM.

Need to bring this up at the city council meeting.

It's not that uncommon for it to reach the low30s during December in Las Vegas. Bummer on the water truck.

That isn't necessarily incompatible with an overall upward trend in global temperatures. This is one instant in time, they measure global warming on a daily average temperature for the whole year.

But yeah, those are some damn cold temperatures. I'm glad I got out of Ohio when I did.

Global warming is accepted by almost ALL reputable scientists. The only ones claiming it isn't true are the corporate sponsored scientists who are paid to,in effect, deny the truth. Taking a step from the neo-cons, corporations who might be affected by global warming have a huge campaingn going on to try and discredit it.
In fact the people who are claiming there is no global warming are the same misguided fools who believed the tobacco companies when they claimed cigarrettes were safe.
Poor misguided morons.

I believe the U.S. is the only developed nation still arguing about the existence of GW. Everyone else has recognized its existence and are working to mitigate its affects.

Yup. The US Corps in the US deny GW 'til they're blue in the face. Canadian subsidiaries of the same Corps openly admit GW and are actively working(PR) at finding solutions. It's quite strange seeing this bizarre difference, distrubingly so.

Topic Title: Extremely Cold Temps across the midwest and mountain west.

Topic Summary: Global warming what?

The contents of the title and summary lines just scream ignorance of the issue. The equivalent of sirens and flashing lights calling attention to a warning of "I have no idea of what I'm talking about.".

OP - Please comment again when your knowlege and imformation are at a useful level.

Well it is summer time on the southern hemisphere. Perhaps warmer temperatures there effect the extremes of temperature in the northern hemisphere.

Link

Listed below are 19,200 of the initial signers During the past 2 years, more than 17,100 basic and applied American scientists, two-thirds with advanced degrees, have signed the Global Warming Petition.

Signers of this petition so far include 2,660 physicists, geophysicists, climatologists, meteorologists, oceanographers, and environmental scientists (select this link for a listing of these individuals) who are especially well qualified to evaluate the effects of carbon dioxide on the Earth's atmosphere and climate.

Signers of this petition also include 5,017 scientists whose fields of specialization in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and other life sciences (select this link for a listing of these individuals) make them especially well qualified to evaluate the effects of carbon dioxide upon the Earth's plant and animal life.

Nearly all of the initial 17,100 scientist signers have technical training suitable for the evaluation of the relevant research data, and many are trained in related fields. In addition to these 17,100, approximately 2,400 individuals have signed the petition who are trained in fields other than science or whose field of specialization was not specified on their returned petition.

Of the 19,700 signatures that the project has received in total so far, 17,800 have been independently verified and the other 1,900 have not yet been independently verified. Of those signers holding the degree of PhD, 95% have now been independently verified. One name that was sent in by enviro pranksters, Geri Halliwell, PhD, has been eliminated. Several names, such as Perry Mason and Robert Byrd are still on the list even though enviro press reports have ridculed their identity with the names of famous personalities. They are actual signers. Perry Mason, for example, is a PhD Chemist.

The costs of this petition project have been paid entirely by private donations. No industrial funding or money from sources within the coal, oil, natural gas or related industries has been utilized. The petition's organizers, who include some faculty members and staff of the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, do not otherwise receive funds from such sources. The Institute itself has no such funding. Also, no funds of tax-exempt organizations have been used for this project.

The signatures and the text of the petition stand alone and speak for themselves. These scientists have signed this specific document. They are not associated with any particular organization. Their signatures represent a strong statement about this important issue by many of the best scientific minds in the United States.

This project is titled "Petition Project" and uses a mailing address of its own because the organizers desired an independent, individual opinion from each scientist based on the scientific issues involved - without any implied endorsements of individuals, groups, or institutions.

The remainder of the initial signers and all new signers will be added to these lists as data entry is completed.

This idea that the scientific community is nearly unanimously in agreement on this issue is patently false.
