why pci-e express? are there actually PCI-e motherboards without PCI slots? An old PCI video card would work in this case and should be cheaper.

my chaintech VNF4 (and all, not just mine) require a PCI-e card to have video at all...the board is awesome except for that

Newegg.com does not test any product, including refurbished items. Refurbished components are therefore only tested by the original manufacturer. Due to the varying quality of manufacturer testing, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING REFURBISHED PRODUCTS. Refurbished items are OPEN BOX products that contain components that have previously been owned by other clients and returned to Newegg.com. These products are sold considerably under cost.

So it is a crapshoot, probably just something someone didn't want but could be broken.

Are you certain? Why would a PCI board not work?

Many boards require the video to be PCIe.

Post in FS/T - ask for an X300SE pull from a cheap Dell system. Many people got on cheap deals that included that and upgraded to a 6 or X-series solution. Should be readily available and a lot more "guaranteed" than a refurb.

A refurb is still under warranty, you can give it back if it doesn't work. What they say is they don't test what come from the manufracturer as refurb, so the chances are higher.

Also, newegg says that all refurb stuff is barebones, no cables, driver, games and whatnot else might be in the original package. It is my understanding that it is often included anyway but they say it is not and you have to shut up if it isn't.
