extreme wackiness with PC not turning on w/fans plugged in

PC turns on a for a few seconds then cuts off. Changed power supply. Computer works unless two rear fans are plugged in. Swapped rear fans out for two different fans. Computer behaves the same way, cuts on then off. If I leave fans unplugged the computer will stay on.

I'm thinking that at this point I have a bad case or a bad motherboard, with the most likely culprit being the motherboard perhaps giving up at a certain voltage level.

Any thoughts??

Any recent BIOS upgrades done?

If so, flash back to the previous version. If not, clear your CMOS.

Have you made any changes that could have brought this on? Or was it a spontaneous thing?

Why, if the only part changes was the PSU, would you assume it is the motherboard? It makes sense to me that it is probably the PSU.

I had this problem before, it was too many fans on one rail. It pulled to much power from the PSU and therefore wouldn't boot. When I switched around the config of how I had everthing plugged in, the machine worked great.
