oh wow. that is impressive. there has to be a lot of sensors, computers and such in the car to do all that. it's also nice that that car had the option to turn if off and on.

Very nice. Esp for a person living in those conditions...as in snow and ice in winter.

Watching now, but I'm wagering that there needs to be a bit more "learn2drive" in the no-ABS, no-TC, no-ESP tests. :p

<British Accent> Without ESP, you risk having to learn2drive, and not doing 70mph on glare ice followed by cranking the wheel from one extreme to the other. </British Accent>

This video should be shown as "How to drive like a total f*ckwit when you don't have electronic aids."

No-ABS - Pump the pedal, idiot.
No-TCS - First of all, the X-Type has quasi-AWD. Why exactly are only your front tires freewheeling, moron? Secondly, nice to see they let you take a nice LONG run at it when the magical TCS was on.
No-ESP - Let's see you crank the wheel like that with ESP on and see what it gets you, numbnuts.

ok dude i respect you, but Tiff Needell knows how to drive, he is very talented... and has been reviewing cars for years.

how does a car have quasi- AWD? theres either a mechanical connection there or theres not.

you say pump the pedal, but how many people would actually stop to think about doing that when trying to avoid a obstacle in a hurry? i bet most people will stamp on the pedal and twizzle the wheel. panic just takes over you, unless you are like tiff and very experienced in car controll....but then again most dont have the leet skillz tiff has.

Which means he knows exactly what not to do, and how to force the car into doing it. I wasn't intending on calling him a moron directly - but rather, "anyone who drives like that in the conditions shown is a moron." My mistake. :p

IIRC, the X-Type can do a front-to-rear split, but not individual wheels. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Proving the point that most people are morons, and need the ABS/TCS/ESP to keep them from plowing into the nearest abutment at 70mph. ;)

I grew up in and got my license in snowy Northern Ontario. I'm perfectly comfortable driving in the winter.

He was Driving a 2wd X-Type. They exist. It's a shame, but they do.

Driving a car (or motorcycle) is all about muscle memory and practice. Since most people rarely get in a situation that requires advanced driving skills, and never practice hard braking or avoidance techniques, they do not have the required muscle memory to pull off pumping the brakes or counter-steering in a skid in a moment of panic.

It is my experience that most people, especially those that claim to have "mad skillz" that don't require ABS, TCS, or ESP, are deluding themselves by thinking they are better drivers than they really are.

According to Ford they don't. They made quite a big deal out of equipping the X-Type with the rear-biased AWD system to quiet the screams of outraged Jag enthusiats at a FWD sedan.

Not that I'm calling BS, I just want to see proof. Is it a Limey-Market-Only option? I've never seen one myself.
