Extreme Slowdown when on Domain -- Advice Needed

Whenever we put our computers on the "school's" network as its domain and not our own, the computer, after having rebooted, it typically very slow and not nearly as responsive as before.

When troubleshooting a problem like this, what things should we look out for? We have already deduced that persistent traffic leads to slowdowns of network usage going doing to .038% or lower. (eg. a large file)

Could constant talking between the network and the computer be causing the overall slowdown? 🙂

If I post the processes from one of those machines, do you think you could spot it? This has happened from a new machine that we just put windows on. As soon as it was on the domain, much slower.

Should, in an ideal situation, being on a network affect a computer's performance in a daily task way?

So it's slow all the time, or only at certain times like logon or logoff?

In the process list, do you see any processes using a lot of CPU? Is the hard drive doing anything?

Oh, what OS is this?

It's Windows XP. Logging on is almost always slow, logging off is usually ok speed. I'll have to get back to you on the HD and processes.
