Extreme Makeover being sued...

Cliffs:

These five orphans are living with a couple from their church.

ABC comes and builds them a home. All paid up. Good to go.

The couple supposedly treats the orphans badly, so the orphans move out.

Instead of suing the couple, the orphans are suing ABC because ""We were promised a home."

:Q I'm sorry? What? You have a home. But you're minors. You don't like it, you don't HAVE TO live there, but don't expect ABC to follow you around building a new home for you wherever you may roam.

Spoiled little brats.

ABC will probably settle. most cases like this generally are, unless they want so much money that ABC actually goes to court in which case it will get tossed by the judge.

Ditto.

I watched that episode and was wondering about that. When the kids grew up and moved away, they had nothing but their free cars. But then I figured, so what. They got a free vacation, a chance to live in a new home, and free cars. Boo hoo.

They have a similar episode where they build a homeless shelter. Will the homeless people sue that they didn't each get their own home?

Not sure what to make of this... on the one hand I hate frivolous lawsuits, but otoh the networks need to pay for making TV un-fvcking-watchable with this garbage reality sh!t.

Have you ever watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition? Reality isn't a word I would have used to describe it.

Fox got sued for their home makeover show (I forget the name of theirs,) but I think it's better justified.

Family had their house renovated, right? They did a half ass job and left town. I thought; "Well, you're still better off so quit your bitching." but then I heard about things like the heater vent venting into a bedroom. WTF?!?!

No sh!t. It's hardly Survivor or "Who wants to date a jackass". It's a show about helping people going through extraordinarily rough times.

haha im sure ABC made them sign contract that exactly spells out what the get. A house.
The contract is a little strange. If ABC builds a million dollar house for a family in need, then the family must pay income tax on it. That would wipe out the needy family many times over. Thus, ABC doesn't give anyone a house.

Instead, ABC leases the house from the family for one week. In the lease contract, the home owner states that the lessee can do any improvements that ABC wants. Legally, the house is ABC's to do as they please during that week. Then the lease is up, and the family moves back in the house.

It is just like an apartment. If you decide to make repairs/repaint/etc, the landlord keeps the changes tax free when you leave.

Thus the kids in this case never had a written contract. They had no house to lease.

It's bad TV exploiting poor people for ratings. I fail to see the difference.

so building a home for poor people while making money for themselves is exploiting?

i hope these idiots don't get a damn penny.. actually i would really hope that all their free cars actually belong to the couple that took them in, and these higgins kids just get thrown out on their ass... maybe the leomiti will give them a cardboard box from their new refridgerator for them to live in... fvcking brats.. give someone an inch and they'll want a yard.. selfish ass#oles

Yes.
Ok now. Answer these:
1) What makes it bad?
2) What makes it exploitation?
3) What makes the people poor? Many non-poor families have been helped.

You guys are all blaming the children.

Isn't it just as likely that the couple who took in the children took advantage of them by creating a sob story that ABC would buy into, getting a free mansion plus goodies, and then driving the children away right before the episode aired on TV?

The housing market is insane right now. What do you think the couple would get for a custom built 9 bedroom mansion? $900k? $1 million+?

Money does crazy things to people.
